How to Wear a Fall Poncho and Elevate Your Style
Lately, I’ve been talking about accessories, like jewelry and gloves, and how they can help you Tweak your Chic.
Today I’m partnering with Nordstrom to bring you one more accessory that I think should be in every woman’s wardrobe – a fabulous fall poncho.
I’ve always had a thing about wraps, ponchos, capes, you name it, because of how glamorous they make me feel. Nordstrom has a fantastic selection of ponchos for women at the moment. A poncho-like is the ultimate accessory because you slip it on over a simple outfit, and you look like a million bucks!
Ponchos are glamorous and a little bit dramatic. They look really classy, and they’re so much fun to swish around in.
This beautiful poncho screams fall, doesn’t it? I love the mix of the rust and the wine -such a rich combo, and the color-blocked edge makes it look thoroughly modern.
A poncho is a natural for cool Autumn days when you don’t want a heavy coat, but it’s chilly outside. I like wearing a poncho shopping or running errands because then, I don’t get hot. It’s also a great layering piece as it gets cooler, and it’s my number one choice to wear when I travel by plane.
The fringe makes this poncho just the slightest bit boho, giving it a casual vibe. I’m wearing it with some cute Michael Kors suede booties, but you could wear it with tall boots, and it would look great too.
Do you like my bag? It’s a fabric-blocked tote in leather and suede – from Tory Burch. I like a big tote with a poncho because it balances out all that fabric. You’ll want to stay away from an over-the-shoulder bag with a poncho because they don’t work. I chose a black bag so the poncho would really pop. I didn’t want a colored bag blending into or competing with the glorious colors in my poncho.
We haven’t talked about the dark tunic and leggings I’m wearing under the poncho. Black or charcoal gray worn head-to-toe under a colorful poncho creates a slimming silhouette. Leave your poncho open, and the long, dark column of color will show through, making you look slim and sophisticated.
Relaxed, classy, and comfy too. This is the way I like to dress.
Finally, a word about my necklace: I’m becoming a Kendra Scott fanatic. I adore her jewelry, which I would describe as classic with a modern edge. This rose gold tassel pendant necklace is the finishing touch on this fab outfit, adding just the right amount of sparkle.
So there it is. When you want to transform a plain outfit into something really wow, a poncho is a fab way to Tweak Your Chic.

Are there shawls out there that are sized? I’m 5,’ and they swallow me.
Hi Margaret, I don’t know of any little capes, but you could try a shorter shawl like this: http://rstyle.me/n/cs29wdb52f7.
Fantastic look on you!?
I need to buy one! Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing your styling tips with a cape! Love!
