6 New Ways To Wear Velvet This Fall
Who doesn’t love a touch of velvet in the fall to upscale your wardrobe and make you feel like a Queen. Up until recently black velvet ruled, and was usually reserved for special occasions. Now velvet is being worn casually, in all sorts of different ways. Here’s how to wear velvet this fall to look modern and fabulous.
1. Switch from Black to Colorful
Black velvet is always in fashion, but lately, a new crop of colors is making velvet a little more exciting and fun to wear. Look for jewel-toned velvet pieces in sapphire blue, ruby-red, burnt orange, burgundy, plum, and gold.
This soft orange velvet mock nee tee is a good example of these gorgeous colors.
2. Look for Modern Silhouettes
This fall velvet is just as much for the day as it is for the night, and with that change comes some pretty cool, casual silhouettes. Velvet tank tops, leggings, jumpsuits, kimonos, shorts, and even moto jackets make velvet fresh and exciting!
3. Try a Velvet Burnout Top
Another way to get a modern look with velvet is with a burned out velvet. This is velvet burned away in certain areas leaves a sheer backing and a gorgeous ornate tapestry pattern. This artistic type of velvet brings an opulent look and rich texture to this high-low top that’s perfect for party season.
Burnout velvet is a chic way to elevate the go-to basics. Wear this top with black or blue jeans and a dainty d’Orsay flat for the day. Swap out the flats for a gorgeous black bootie, and you’re ready for date night or dinner with the girls. Bonus: the deep blue color in this top makes a nice, complexion-flattering change from black.
4. Experiment with a Velvet Print
You typically see velvet in solid colors, but now designers are starting to play with patterns and prints. The stained-glass print on this cute and casual T-shirt top adds depth and personality.
This is a perfect top for creative types looking for something more artistic. I’ve paired the top with straight-cut jeans, a style that looks good on most body types and has started to come back after years of skinnies. Textured suede booties balance things out. For the evening, swap out the jeans for dressy pants and shoes, and you’re all set for more formal events.
5. Crushed Velvet is Cool
Texture can make velvet look cozy, which is why crushed velvet is so popular. This gorgeous royal blue velvet top with flirty, wide bell sleeves has a fun boho feel and a relaxed weekend vibe. What else do you need but dark pants when you have a tremendous statement-making top like this?
6. Add a Velvet Accessory
Velvet is such a popular fall trend that designers use it on anything they can think of. There are gorgeous velvet bags, shoes, leggings, gloves, and belts, but velvet socks are probably one of the most unusual things I’ve seen! Now that’s giving your feet the royal treatment!
