3 Ways to Style a Velvet Top with Pants for the Holidays
Nothing feels more luxurious or festive than wearing velvet at Christmastime. A plush velvet top paired with pants is the perfect holiday outfit.
Here are some of the newest velvet tops to wear right now and how to style them to look casually chic.

1. Red Velvet Top with Bow
Rich red velvet is romantic, and the style of this top plays up that feeling. From the front, you see a high neck and soft ruching, but look behind, and you’ll discover an open back and a huge, gorgeous satin bow.
It kind of looks like you’re dressed up like a beautiful Christmas package, right? This top is definitely on the “sweet” side, but it still works at any age.
An elegant way to wear it is with flowy, black wide-leg pants. These are velvet, but any wide-leg dress pants would be fine.
This outfit calls for bling, so I’ve added some gold earrings and a chain bag. Sling-back pumps are the shoe of the season and look fabulous with this classic holiday outfit.

2. Green Velvet Shirt with Cream Pants
If you are more of a tailored gal, then that’s no problem because there are many button-up velvet shirts this year. Doesn’t this green one look luxurious, and cozy, too?
A nice thing about velvet is that, over the years, it has become more relaxed. Traditional silk velvet is stiff and formal, but these days, there is a lot of stretch velvet and velvet blended with cotton and polyester, making it more fluid and casual.
This top is a great example of that.
I’ve paired this more casual velvet shirt with a pair of gorgeous off-white pants. Most women automatically think to pair any color velvet with black, but this winter white is just as festive and especially perfect if you live in a warmer climate.
I love the gold stripe on these pants, which makes them sporty, like the button-up top. That silk print bag brings it all together. Put your hand over the bag, look, and then draw it away. See what a difference a little bit of print makes!

3. Metallic Black Velvet Top + Black Pants
Oh, Mama, this is a fabulous-looking top! Velvet looks gorgeous draped, and this feminine wrap style takes advantage of that. I like the way it gently crosses and flows across the front. Not only is it elegant, but it’s great for concealing a jelly belly!
Look closely, and you will see the sleeves are semi-sheer. This is perfect because your arms are covered (and I know how many of you want that), but they don’t look heavy like thick, velvet sleeves might.
The gold dots on the black velvet are classic, but their irregular shape makes them also feel modern.
Again, I’m pulling out the gold in the top to make you shine by adding a gold bag. A black bag would be boring, and a gold shoe with a gold purse would be too matchy-matchy to call this chic. So, go ahead, mix it up!

Can You Wear a Velvet Top with Jeans?
Some of you have asked if you can wear velvet with jeans, and yes, of course, there are no limits in this day and age. Personally, it’s not really me, unless maybe it was leather jeans or inky black jeans.
For gals who are into very casual or Boho style, or who have a creative personality and like unusual combinations, a velvet top with a pair of blue jeans—any wash can feel eclectic and fun.

Love that green velvet top! I would wear it with nice slacks for a more formal look, or even with jeans for fun. :)
Hi Carolyn, Doesn’t it look cozy, and I think that green is such a gorgeous color. You don’t see it much except at Christmas so it’s nice to take advantage of that. Thanks for stopping by! Happy Holidays! Deb
