Tie-dye clothing is in style this Spring, and there are many funky pieces in the stores. Is it possible to wear this trend at 40, 50 or more without looking (or feeling) like an old hippie? Here are some modern tie-dye outfits that won’t make you look outdated.
Tie-Dye Beach Dress
If you wore the tie-dye trend way back when and you’d love to try it again, the easiest way to incorporate it into your wardrobe is via beachwear. Tie-dye prints naturally lend themselves to sea and sand vacations, and there are some adorable sundresses out there that would be perfect for that cruise you are planning, or your summer vacation. This cute tie-dye maxi dress is cute worn as a sundress, or wear it as a swimsuit cover-up.
Instead of styling it with boho leather Jesus sandals, a rope bag and feather earrings like you might have when you were young, try a more sophisticated approach. Add a pair of sleek, modern white and silver sandals, a leather tote, and a couple of fabric hoop earrings. These accessories bring this tie-dye look up to date and also create a chicer look.
Tie Die Cover Up
Speaking of Tie-dye cover-ups, here is another one, this time short and with the loveliest tie-dye print. There are a lot of wild, rainbow tie dye clothing out there that incorporates several bright colors. They tend to look more junior. A soft ombré wash like this, above, is more mature and elegant.
This subtle lavender tie-dye print worn with a sexy black swimsuit is all you need to look on-trend and create a touch of that relaxed boho mood. With this outfit, I’ve picked up on the flirty tassel detail on the cover-up and added black tassel earrings and a chic straw bag with pompoms. These classy silver sandals give the outfit an upscale look.
Tie-Dye Roll-Tab Shirt
Simple pieces and classic cuts also take tie-dye out of the ’70s and into 2019. This gorgeous pink tie-dye shirt with the 3/4 length roll-tab sleeves looks crisp and modern worn with these cute cropped jeans. Add a pair of wedge sandals, a lovely summer bag, and statement earrings, and you are ready for drinks and dinner at your favorite outdoor restaurant.
The lesson here is to make your tie-dye piece the hero of your outfit. I love the way the all-white canvas makes this top pop! Flip-up the collar for a mature and sophisticated look!
Dye Maxi Dress
As you have probably been noticing, accessories can change the look and feel of an outfit. This blue tie-dye dress is a good example. This easy-going tie-dye maxi dress is cute on its own, but this fabulous circle purse gives it a modern boost. Circle purses are hot at the moment and will make any outfit you wear look right on-trend.
These wedge sandals may seem familiar, like the kind you wore when tie-dye was in style during the ’70s, but what makes them a little new and different is that they are slides. What goes around, comes around, but never quite in the same way.
Do you like tie-dye clothing, and will you be wearing it this summer?
