Best Casual Eyelet Dresses For Gals Over 50
Eyelet dresses have a classic, feminine charm that makes them one of my favorites. And they just happen to be in style for spring/summer 2025! Today, I’m sharing some of the best casual eyelet dresses I’ve found that are fabulous for gals our age.
What do I mean by the best? Well, there’s a challenge that comes with embracing this soft, romantic style at a certain age. The trick is to find an eyelet dress that doesn’t feel too young and precious or too old and vintage looking either.
In my books, the most flattering eyelet dresses for women 40, 50, and 60 are more sophisticated than sweet and more vibrant than Victorian. Let’s take a closer look at my new eyelet dress and some others that are modern and trending.

Lily Pulitzer Eyelet Shirtdress
I’m kicking things off with this beautiful eyelet dress that I just picked up from Lily Pulitzer (also at Saks). This elegant eyelet shirtdress checks all the right boxes. It’s got a clean, modern shape, is a beautiful shade of blue, and the eyelet detail is stunning.
I love the artsy circular cutouts and the delicate scalloped hemline, which really make you look twice! A hemline like this is a natural way to draw attention to your legs if that’s one of your best features!
The great thing about this eyelet dress is that it’s unbelievably versatile. Here I am wearing it on vacation in Florida with my blogger friend @Jolynneshane, and it looks casual but classy by the Tiki Bar.
You could also open up the neckline and wear a beautiful white tank underneath to give it an even more relaxed look. Dress it up with bigger jewelry and heels, and wear it out to dinner. Or, throw on a jacket, pop the collar, and wear it to the office.
The gorgeous blue (which seems to be very popular) feels very modern, and the dress is so lightweight and feminine that I could also see wearing it to a special event like a baby shower, bridal shower, christening, or even a graduation. And, of course, let’s not forget Easter or Mother’s Day!!!
Here are a few more fabulous eyelet dresses I have my eye on and things you may want to think about when choosing and wearing eyelet dresses at 40, 50, or 60+
Play with Structure and Silhouettes
Sometimes, a modern shape is all you need to make an eyelet dress feel modern. I talked about my shirtdress style, which is very clean-lined and contemporary. Well, here’s another silhouette that is extremely popular and very sophisticated at the moment.
It’s a beautiful white midi eyelet dress with gorgeous tailoring. These figure-flattering rows of darts pull you in under the best and create an empire dress shape. And I love the sleeves! They’re soft and feminine without being all big, puffy, and junior-looking. I might just pick one of these up, too!
Go Beyond White
White eyelet dresses, like the one I showed you, are classic and timeless, but it’s fine to go beyond that and inject some color. In fact, color can make you look very modern and youthful. What I like about this dress is that it combines a very chic shape—that shirtdress again—with a bold, bright color. One balances out the other! (If you like the color, this popover dress is super cute, too)
That’s what you are after. If you took a long, flowy tiered maxi that was very flouncy and pouffy in this color, it might look too sugary, sweet, and junior to feel classy.
Balance the Vibe
Here’s another great example of balancing the vibe. If you are really not a girly girl but want to try a touch of eyelet, then how about a chic black eyelet dress or this perky, shorter navy one? The eyelet is subtle, and it has just a touch of eyelet at the sleeves and hem.
Once it warms up, I can see myself wearing this to bop around town, run errands, and get groceries. You could also dress it up with gold metallic sandals and some gold jewelry, which would brighten up the look if you were going out to dinner, etc.

Keep Makeup and Hair Modern and Chic
There’s no sense in wearing a cute eyelet dress and then having old, frumpy-looking hair. You’ll look like an old lady in a little girl’s dress. Sorry, I don’t mean to be harsh, but you get the picture. Keep your makeup light and classic and your hair relaxed and fresh.
If you really love it, get it!
The bottom line is the tips I’m sharing really don’t matter a whole lot if in the end you truly love a certain eyelet dress. There’s no fashion police out there, so if you love it, get it!!!
Wear what makes You feel confident and beautiful!
I also do find that we sometimes need a little push to try something new or just treat ourselves. When I come across a beautiful dress, I can usually find a good reason to wear it. This gorgeous floral eyelet dress, for example, inspires me to buy it and then book a cruise! What do they say? Buy the dress, and the party will come. Lol!
