It’s April, and my heavy winter coat has been packed away, but it’s not exactly sundress season yet! (lol!) A cute spring coat or jacket is a must this time of year when the weather is still a bit chilly, rainy, and definitely unpredictable.
Today, I’m sharing a round-up of some of the best spring coats for women our age and styling tips for how to wear them if you are a gal in her 40s, 50s, or 60s living a casual lifestyle (like me!) Here’s what’s trending.

April showers bring May flowers – and the cutest spring will keep you dry and stylish. Rain or Shine, you’ll be excited to step outside and bop around town, grocery shopping, doctors appointments, out to the gym, in one of these fresh spring jackets!
This season, it’s all about color: pink, red, yellow, and lots of chic neutrals are trending. Spring. Lightweight yet cozy quilted jackets in bright hues add the perfect pop of color to any outfit. Sporty, cropped trench coats– totally in right now- bring a casual, cool vibe to your look. Denim jackets are also getting a glow-up. This dusty pink one with the pleated drop shoulder sleeves is adorable.
And, of course, you can’t go wrong with a classical butter-yellow “duckie raincoat – it’s perky and practical. Every gal should have at least one great trench in her closet. I especially love this tan one with the yellow cuffed sleeves for a fun twist on a timeless piece.

Spring Coats are practical, but don’t forget they’re also a great way to style up by adding an extra layer of interest to your outfit ( and often a shot of color, too!) Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Spring is a short season, so to get the most wear out of your spring jacket year after year, choose a timeless silhouette over something super trendy and likely out of fashion next year. For example, structured, tailored trench coats and pea coats are timeless and versatile, and they pair with almost every outfit. They have a polished look, but they’re not stiff and are great for elevating really casual looks like jeans. Wrap coats, A-line coats, Trapeze coats, and double-breasted coats all look fabulous. Cropped jackets or longer, more casual drawstring jackets are always in style, too.
Keep it Lightweight and Waterproof
Spring style is about looking light, fresh, and airy, so stay clear of coats or jackets with a heavy or bulky, weighed-down look. You’re headed into warmer weather, so choose a coat or jacket that is thin, lightweight, breathable, and ideally waterproof! It’s fantastic that you can easily find a super warm and very thin coat. The technology has come a long way!

It’s always good to have one classic spring coat in a neutral color like taupe, navy, tan, or black, but a bright spring coat will really pack a punch and will make you look springy, sporty, and youthful. It’s good to have both. Over the years, I’ve grown my collection to include a pretty pink trench coat and a bold, playful, cropped yellow one! The easiest way to wear a lot of color if you are not used to it is with a sporty look, so try a bright lavender spring jacket with your leggings, tee and sneakers when you go to the gym!

For a casual look, start with a simple shirt or tee, layer on a sweater, and finish off with a thin, very lightweight zip-up spring jacket if you’re going to be outdoors all weekend. One note here: Don’t be like me. With temperatures changing quickly, even within a day, I’ve lost a few spring coats because I took them off halfway through the day, left them somewhere, and never thought about them again until months later!
