1. Simple and Pretty

A pretty blouse with a pair of relaxed jeans and some casual flats is just what you’ll need for NYC. Take a small cross-body bag to keep your hand free to take some photos and shop without having to lug around a heavy load.

2. A Little Edgy

NYC is a bustling metropolis with an exciting array of people who value individuality, so if you prefer a slightly edgier look, this may be for you. This asymmetrical red top worn with black jeans is a smart option. Finish it off with a pair of cool and comfy sneakers for all that walking you will be doing.

  1. How crazy…I was looking for ideas for an outfit to wear to Wicked next month, and voila! Perfecto for this 52-year-old – thanks!

  2. I was going to New York for a couple of weeks this summer and wondered how hot it gets. I will be doing a lot of walking, so I am worried about wearing pants.

    1. Hi Meagan, I go to NY at the beginning of August every year, which is always very hot. I always wear cropped pants (i.e., white cropped jeans and a nice v-neck cotton short sleeve or sleeveless top, and I’m okay. Sundresses are okay too. The key is comfy shoes. Take an umbrella too, as I’ve often been there when it is super hot and humid, but there is some rain- again in early August. Cheers, Deborah

  3. I’m going to New York in April. What would be a great look to wear? I love your website. It’s very informative, but yet FUN!! I’m in my Fab 50s and going to attend my niece’s Bachelorette party. She’s a Fab 50. Thank you for any advice you can share.

    1. Hi Valerie,
Is the party at home, a restaurant or a bar? It is in the evening, I presume? How many women going? You could wear anything from skinny dark wash jeans, high heels, and a silky top with jewelry to a sexy, fancy cocktail dress, depending on where the event is. It would help if you had some glamour-some bling or shine to make it a fun/party/celebration feel. I hope that helps. Cheers, Deborah

  4. You might advise your readers that there is an outlet store for Etcetera & Worth in New York! Some of my friends went when we were there about a month ago.

  5. I LOVE the dress…Etcetera doesn’t seem to be a store…how do you buy things from them? I lived in Phoenix and googled it, but nothing came up.
    Thanks for the help
    Jennifer

  6. Timely article!!! Going to NYC for a long weekend on Nov 18th. I will watch for the rest of the posts:) I love that dress!!! I wish I had it in my closet.

    1. Have fun in NYC, Jennell! Yes, I love it too.. that brand, Etcetera, makes some beautiful things! I think you can only get it from an Etcetera rep. Though…worth looking into!

  7. Oh my! How convenient this post is! I am planning to visit NYC during the Thanksgiving weekend, and I already have black flat boots and a red coat, so I would like to have your helpful tips to build a wardrobe around these items! Thank you very much!

    1. Hi Chris,
Sounds PERFECT.. those will be a great start! Now, all you need are some black stretch pants to tuck into the boots, a scarf, and possibly a little black dress with some opaque hose.
Bring band-aids in case of blisters… and another pair of shoes for the night.

It's your life. Make it Fabulous!
