My snuggly white faux shearling coat (similar)  is part movie star, part Teddy Bear.  It’s incredibly glam and so cozy, too!

Faux shearling coats and jackets are in style for Fall/Winter 2024, so today, I’m sharing a few of the nicer ones.  But before we dive in, let’s talk about what faux shearling is.

What is Faux Shearling vs. Shearling?

Shearling is the skin of a sheep or lamb that has just been shorn, tanned, and cleaned.  One side is tanned leather (suede), and the other side is trimmed fur.

Faux shearling, also known as Sherpa, mimics the bumpy look of sheep’s wool. It is made from lightweight polyester (fleece), cotton, or acrylic and is lighter and less expensive than real shearling.

Since no one wants to hurt a lamb or a sheep in the name of fashion,  faux shearling coats are a great thing! Women love their chunky size, beautiful texture, and warm, cozy feel of a faux shearling coat.

Is Faux Shearling as warm as Shearling?

On its own faux shearling is not as warm as shearling. But, if you layer it over denim, cotton or microsuede it becomes windproof and can be warmer than shearling.

1. Faux Shearling Biker Jacket

Everyone loves a biker moto jacket, but don’t you think the leather ones are getting a bit old? So here’s a cozy new spin.

This sleek Soia & Kyo Faux Shearling Biker Jacket is one classy jacket.  It looks so soft and velvety, like the real thing. Who would believe this is faux shearling?

I love that sharp, flattering cut, and the wide shearling collar and muff-like cuffs give it a high-end designer look. Wear this with black jeans and black tee for that updated moto mama look. Very cool!

long gray faux shearling coat

2. Long Faux Shearling Coat

This chic coat is called the Eiffel Faux Shearling Coat from Steve Madden, and sure enough, something about it does seem rather French to me.

It’s slightly oversized, but wow, is it chic! I’m the first to admit I’m not much for gray, as it is usually pretty dull-looking, but this beautiful light shade of gray has won me over.

The color, the style—it all says elegance to me, and I think it looks fab with black boots. It’s classy, comfy, and worldly. I love this!

Faux Leather Trimmed Sherpa Jacket

3. Faux Leather Trimmed Sherpa Jacket

I have nicknamed this cute little jacket, the “bear cub”,  because that’s what it reminds me of!

I love the warm, earthy brown color and the contrasting faux leather trim on what is officially known as the  Denver Faux Shearling Coat by Sam.

This jacket has a gorgeous frame-framing collar, keep warm thumbhole cuffs, and a handy adjustable drawstring hem. It’s a great casual coat with a sporty, fun look!

4. Faux Shearling Shacket

This dreamy Zella white shirt jacket that looks kind of like a shirt is as pretty as a white fluffy cloud. Yes, it’s light and can get dirty, but who cares?

It really does have a heavenly look, and I love how this brand has styled it with all-black.

This is the perfect coat when you are stopping into the grocery store to pick up some milk on your way home from your workout. (You can tell I can see myself in this, right? Lol!)

5. Contrast Faux Shearling Jacket

Now, this is pretty darn cute! It’s a DKNY Contrast Faux Shearling Jacket that makes a great car coat. It a little bit similar to the white one I just showed you but it has more of a modern minimalistic loo. I love the adorable square puffer pockets, and that perky stand-up collar.

This jacket feels so fresh and chic, and the black shearling makes it look and feel very cozy, which is a little surprising since black usually comes across as a more formal and can even look a bit intimidating.

Reversible Sherpa Puffer Vest

6. Reversible Sherpa Puffer Vest

Here’s an idea I really like. It’s a Reversible Sherpa Puffer Vest. There’s cozy sherpa and solid quilted. Warm and cozy either way! The color is so gorgeous, too.

The lamb’s wool white with the beautiful burgundy makes it a knock-out piece! I love this with the matching joggers and sneakers. This is athleisure wear at its best!

Classic Faux Shearling Bomber Jacket

7. Classic Faux Shearling Bomber Jacket

For all my gals who enjoy a classic look, this is the jacket for you. This Mango faux shearling jacket (here too) reminds me of a shearling jacket I bought in Turkey in the early 90s (a real one). It was so thick, heavy, and stiff that I had a near-impossible time getting it into my suitcase to bring it home.

Of course, this newer Sherpa jacket has a similar look, but it is much lighter since it is faux shearling and probably a lot more comfortable. This is a great jacket to wear on the weekend with jeans and a cozy fall-winter sweater.

So don’t get stuck in a rut. Try something new. A faux shearling jacket is worth another look. More styles below.

  1. The first look is me! I have a faux-shearling short jacket from Ann Taylor that I love. It would look like a $300 coat, even if I paid 1/10th of that. And I have flare jeans. I was a child in the 1970s and have always gravitated toward those looks. I have a few clothes and costume pieces that Mom wore in the 1970s that I enjoy now. Plus, I have my collection of silver bangle bracelets that I’m wearing again forty+ years on. Thanks for the great ideas I find here.

It's your life. Make it Fabulous!
