There was a day when dressing for Thanksgiving was a big deal, and everyone wore their Sunday best. Now, some of us don’t even want to get out of our jammies (Lol!)

If you’re a little more old school and like to dress up a bit but don’t want to be overdressed compared to everyone else, here’s the perfect modern look. 

Pair a dressy satin blouse with casual trendy jeans to create a classy, semi- dressy Thanksgiving Day outfit.  Let’s break down this style recipe.

Satin is luxurious, dressy, and very much on trend right now. Denim is denim—plain, casual, a little rough, but a dark wash uplevels it a bit. Mix these opposites, then throw in sleek booties, gold jewelry (elegant), and a rustic suede bag (casual) to balance your look and hit that perfect, dressy-casual sweet spot.

I think this is a great guest outfit for Thanksgiving.  You wouldn’t want to wear delicate satin as the cook. Those big dramatic sleeves would be a nightmare in the kitchen! I can just see them dragging in the gravy pot.

For all my leggings, ladies, I have something for you! I don’t think you can get a more perfect pair of pants for Thanksgiving, and here’s why.

Leggings are super soft and stretchy and often have an elastic waistband. How better than this when you want to chow down on your favorite Thanksgiving dishes. 

Let’s remember that leggings were made for lounging, so they are super comfy to curl up in after a big meal. Plus, with a wide, oversized sweater like this, no one will notice you had that extra helping of mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie! (Lol!)

I’ve paired this beautiful asymmetrical sweater in chocolate brown with these sleek leggings and added thick platform loafers. But you could easily go with a pair of high knee boots to look chic, too. (Stay away from ankle booties with leggings, ladies—that look is now passe.)

4. Trendy Cozy Sweater Outfit Idea

The most obvious kind of outfit for Thanksgiving is simply a trendy sweater with any pants. The key here is not to pull any old sweater out of the closet but wear something cozy woozy that is right on trend.

For example, blanket-stitch sweaters are having a moment. They are super on-trend and look casual and chic. The style matters. The current look is slightly oversized—big enough to look relaxed but not so big that it looks sloppy. Wear them with jeans and then, surprise, surprise, not with sneakers but with sling-back flats to upscale the look for Thanksgiving. 

Accessories can also make a huge difference. This slouchy hobo bag with a rounded top is the bag for fall. I can’t get on a fashion website without seeing several of these for sale.

5. Sparkly Top Outfit Idea

Whether you are entertaining friends at home for Thanksgiving or traveling across the country to visit family, you probably have two things in mind: You want to look cute and feel comfy.

For my Glam Gal types who love a bit of bling, this pearl-embellished sweater is for you. This type of top comes out of the woodwork during the holiday season, but they don’t last long because they get snatched up fast. I have chosen a beautiful classic black sweater with pearls.

I don’t like to buy anything too trendy when it comes to pearl sweaters, as they can start looking a little tacky. This one is just right, and you can wear it at Christmas, too, and for years to come.

I’ve paired this sparkly sweater with wide-leg jeans, which are so popular at the moment, and added some Mary Jane flats to make this look current. There’s that bag shape again! I told you.
