5 Great Reasons to Wear Duster Jacket

Duster jackets, also known as duster coats or kimonos, are new and fun to wear. These long, light, loose layering pieces are the swiss army knives of fashion because you can throw them on over-top pretty much anything.

Here are five reasons to wear a duster coat over 40, plus some cool ways to style them.

1. Duster Coats Cover Up the Wobbly Bits

Duster coats hide a multitude of sins. Prefer to keep flabby arms covered? Wear a duster. Want to deflect attention away from heavy hips and thighs? Wear a duster. A sheer one like the black duster above is a godsend in the summer when the weather is warm, and you want to wear less without showing more.

3. They Add a Shot of Color

A lot of gals love neutrals, and I don’t blame them. Neutrals are chic and classy. But I’m also a big fan of face-flattering color, and an easy way to get this is by tossing on a colorful duster jacket. In the summer, a bright one over white jeans and a white t-shirt or tank makes a fantastic outfit.

3.  Duster functions as the Elusive ‘Third Piece’

Adding a third piece to a basic pant and top outfit is a styling trick that helps pull an outfit together and makes it look more cohesive. That third piece can be a  scarf, a  sweater, a jacket, or…. a duster. This outfit is okay with just the jeans and a cute top but sees how it comes alive with this pretty floral duster?

4. Duster Jackets Keep You Warm

For those summer days when it’s hot outside but cold inside because of air conditioning, a lightweight linen duster is a perfect option to help you keep warm without overheating. A duster is also a terrific transition piece from summer to fall when the temperature is yoyo-ing.

5. Dusters Soften an Edgy Outfit

If you like an edgy aesthetic but worry it might be too harsh once you hit 40, a duster is a great way to soften things up. Because they are light and flowy, they add a relaxed element to your outfit. What do you think? Are duster coats fab or frumpy?
