It seems like wherever I go shopping, brands are featuring their own unique version of the classic blue and white striped shirtdress. This is a hugely popular look for summer because it’s timeless, easy to wear, and also super versatile.
I picked up this cute pinstripe shirtdress at the mall, without even bothering to try it on. It looked so crisp and fresh on the hanger that I knew it would look great on.
I’m a big fan of summer shirtdresses. ( You may have seen the ruched blue and white shirtdress I also own). They’re one of the best kind of sundresses for me at this age and stage of the game. They’re thin and light, so they keep you cool, but they’re not skimpy like so many other sundresses are.
Shirtdresses are tailored, which makes them look classy, and they have sleeves, which are often impossible to find in the summer! You can cover up your upper arm jiggle, but the sporty roll tabs on the sleeves keep you looking relaxed and youthful.
Besides the high-low hem, which is a lovely, modern detail, this dress is decorated with the prettiest white embroidered leaves. This makes it a little bit different than your average blue and white striped shirtdress and gives you something interesting to pick up on when styling this dress. A flip of the collar and this dress looks cute and chic.
You don’t need many accessories with a simple sundress like this. I’ve added some tropical touches like a straw bag, rope sandals, and some delicate gold jewelry. Lighter, finer jewelry is overtaking all that massive statement jewelry we wore a couple of years ago.
I bought this earthy straw clutch bag last year and was surprised to see how well it went with this dress. I love the vibrant colors and the way the embroidered flowers tie in with the embroidered leaves on the dress.
My shoes are my favorite rope wedges that I’ve had for a couple of years. They have a timeless look. They’re beachy and casual like the bag, and the neutral tone keeps all eyes on the dress.
Isn’t this necklace pretty? I’ve noticed a lot of jewelry based on ancient this summer. This necklace reminds me of something you’d find in a pirate’s treasure chest. I’m crazy about the old world charm it brings to this outfit and the way it ties into the gold on my bag and sandals.
I’ve added a pair of modern hoop earrings and my favorite hexagonal Ray-Bans, and I’m done. For a dressier look, you could easily switch out this self-belt for something else more dramatic. If you like leggings, then this shirtdress could be worn as a long tunic top over white summer leggings or thin white jeans.
This dress has sold out but I have searched the internet and found some other blue and white striped dresses with a similar look and feel. I’ve also posted some similar clutch bags and shoes.
