I’m a big believer in having one great statement piece as the focus of an outfit.
This fall, that happens to be this fabulous new plaid jacket from Nordstrom that I’m sharing with you today. Plaid is a huge trend this fall and Nordstrom has a great selection of cute plaid blazers to choose from. This one by Halogen made me take a second look.
The color is fantastic! It’s a gorgeous warm navy with red, coral, even a bit of pink. The contrast between the navy and the brights is electric and commanding, but not overpowering.
It’s a tweed jacket! ….The nubby fabric gives it a beautiful texture, and metallic threading throughout creates a 3D look. I find that the older I get, the more I appreciate clothing with texture. One of the beauties of texture is that it can help soften and downplay wrinkles since it provides less of a contrast than really smooth fabrics.
The fit of this jacket is super flattering. It’s double-breasted, which I think always looks rather regal, and it with a deep front cut, which makes it more feminine. It’s beautifully tailored and nips in perfectly to whittle your waist.
Clothes with bold shoulders like we wore back in the ’80s are also trending, and we can see a bit of that here. These shoulders are a little stronger than on most jackets but not at all stiff. They help broaden the shoulders and act like a hanger giving a woman more definition and a better shape.
The strong shoulders, the tailoring, the shiny gold buttons, and the way the jacket is cut away at the front give this jacket a military feel.
It’s a strong but very feminine jacket, and you could style it with a pencil skirt and heels, or you could wear it dress pants, but since my lifestyle is more casual, I’ve styled it with jeans. I wear a lot of skinny jeans, and they would work with this plaid tweed jacket, but I knew they would look great with a pair of dark wash blue jeans.
Just like the jacket, these Fidelity bootcut jeans nip in and out. You have the tighter leg and then a bootcut flare and to make your legs look long and slinky with the short, cropped jacket.
A scoop neck top, or a mock neck or turtleneck would be cute under this jacket. I chose an off-white, silky shell to make the colors in the jacket spring to life. My pretty Jenny Bird necklace is perfect for the deep cut front.
And, my red Gucci Bag matches perfectly! This is such a fabulous outfit because it feels elevated but not stuffy, expensive but not out of reach. It gives the message of confidence and class, and that’s the way I feel when I wear it too.
