J.Jill Try on Haul – My Surprise Finds!

I just want to say, Thank you, Glam Gals! I know how much many of you like J.Jill, so I’ve been popping into that store lately to do a little poking around, and boy have I come up with some good finds! Today, I’m doing a try-on haul of several Fall outfits that surprised me. I’ve always thought of J.Jill as a little plain and boxy, but I discovered some casual, great-fitting pieces that really suit me. Let’s start with my favorite find!

Slim Fit Jeans

Wow, these jeans! I love them and have been wearing them nonstop! You know how you can have a closet full of jeans and keep reaching for the same pair—that’s me with these.

These Authentic Slim-Fit Jeans look so chic! They’re soft, have a great shape, just the right amount of stretch, and are the perfect modern length. Slim fit means they are between a straight leg and a skinny—my favorite style of jeans.

I’m a size, and these are a six, and they fit me perfectly.

The cozy funnel ombre neck sweater is also quite nice and reminded me of something I would usually see at Nordstrom. It is slightly roomy, but that’s just the style, and when you half-tuck tuck, it looks great.

The Best Cords Ever!

My second favorite find is these gorgeous corduroy pants. Boy, are J.Jill’s pants are good! Many corduroy pants are too thick, heavy, and rugged for my taste, but not these. They are light, stretchy, pinwale corduroy with a subtle texture.

You almost have to look twice to realize they are corduroy. Look at that fabulous shape again. They fit me to a tee. The blouse is nice, too- fairly classic, but it looks fresh with that modern mix of burgundy and gold.

Knit Fringe Poncho | Layering Tank Gray Slim Leg Pants

A Darling Poncho

I love ponchos, and this gray and cream one jumped out at me. I thought the fringe sleeves were fabulous, and the gray slim-leg pants were comfy and classy.

Alas, I am not a gray gal. I love gray on others, but for some reason, I always feel depressed in this color. Color has energy and can affect you psychologically,  so I passed on this one.

Harvest Moon Sweater | Gray High Rise Flare jeans

Super Comfy Gray Jeans

Unlike gray, I do have a thing for nubby sweaters, and this juicy violet berry one, as I call it, was just my color and style. They actually call it the Harvest Moon sweater!

Since I do like the look of gray, just not near my face, I thought I’d try on these High-Rise Flare Jeans. They are a nice, light dove gray, which you don’t see so much, and a girl can only have so many black and blue jeans. I wanted a change.

As soon as I put these on, I fell in love. Talk about comfy. I’m telling you, J. Jill gets full marks for their jeans and pants from me. These went home with me.

Authentic Slim Fit Jeans | Teal v-neck tunic ( similar)

Terrific Teal Top

Here are those fabulous jeans I started with again, and of course I did end up buying them too. This time, I tried them on with this classic V-neck sweater.

This was a winner – good quality and an excellent color. It looks plain here, but I imagine it would look great layered with a jacket to give it some life. I can’t find it on their website, although I see something similar. It’s a slightly longer tunic, so I have linked it.

Multi-colored Knit Sweater | Slim Leg Corduroy Pants

Cozy, Classy Sweater

I decided to try one more outfit with these fabulous burgundy cords, so I slipped on another great textured sweater in a subtle Multi-color mix. I love shopping where the colors match so well, and you don’t have to go hunting from store to store to find something to match.

This is a beautiful natural look that J.Jill seems to be famous for. I notice many of their colors are rather muted and earthy, and everything has a classic, laid-back vibe.

So, What did I buy?

So that’s what I found at J.Jill, and here’s what I checked out with all three pants and the berry-colored Harvest Moon nubby sweater! It was a successful shopping day.

I’ve linked everything under the photos and some New Arrivals above. Check back on the blog this week when I model these outfits I now own in the real world ( with much better lighting, too – J.Jill needs to improve their dressing room and store lighting- Uggh)

P.S. Slingback shoes are my own. See here.

  1. You look amazing, Deborah! I need to update my wardrobe! I’m totally going to get some of these outfits you linked. My current wardrobe is so outdated I’d probably need a dumpster rental just to get rid of all of them! I can’t wait to try some of these on myself. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks Hazel! Yes, I always forget how high it makes you feel to find something new that is stylish and makes you look age-amazing. I bought a few of these things and I’m all set! Cheers, Deborah

    1. Thanks Carolyn! That yellow-gold was the first thing in the store that caught my eye. I tried it on with light tan/camel pants but it looked washed out. I like how it pops with the dark denim. Teal was great too. I have a bought a few Teal things lately. It’s a popular color this fall and did you know it is considered a Universal color? Teal and also color look good on everyone! Thanks for popping in to comment. Cheers! Deb

  2. Any ideas?
I am to be the mother of the bride in June 2026.. and am needing ideas and help plz, in what to wear.
I’m 5’5″, 10 stone 61lbs, so quite short. A straight figure with no real curves. I’m blonde , shoulder length fine hair and grey eyed. I often choose to wear deep pink, bright colours snd greens. My best feature are my legs! What about hair and hats? And shawls or cardigans?

    1. Hi Juliet, Thanks for dropping by and Congratulations on your daughter’s wedding. There is so much that goes into picking the perfect MOB dress from the color to the style that suits your body type to the wedding theme and colors. I guess my first advice would be to talk to the bride and ask if there is anything special she wants you to wear or not wear. Then I would say go for colors and styles that suit you. If you like brights and it works with the wedding colors, go with a bright. If you have great legs, go with knee length rather than long. I would also say choose something fairly classic so 5 years down the road you don’t look at that family wedding picture sitting on your fireplace mantle and wonder, what was I thinking! (lol!) Of course, getting the right dress to flatter your figure is important. 5″5″ is average not short and if your shape is a rectangle then you want something that gives you a bit of a waist (you need to fake some curves) – a dress with a definite top, waist and bottom, otherwise you will look like one solid block. You really need to just start trying on dresses and see what works. Something like this is bright pink, short and creates a waist:https://rstyle.me/+enZaOPWmGeoIrG0xopt1BQ or if you wanted something with sleeves:https://rstyle.me/+bIJuNOTGbj8qdPxpp4XPEA this is a similar dress. I would suggest you check out http://www.alexevenings.com and http://www.adrianepappel.com too as a starting point. http://www.davidsbridal.com also has a lot of dresses. The key is to start now because if you leave it a few months out you will find there is nothing left. Order, try things on, go out to the stores and you will find the perfect dress. I’m sure of it. Cheers, Deborah

  3. I love J Jill, too, for petites. They have a petite section at the back of our store, and I have found some great jeans. My favorite has been the deep-cuff cropped authentic jeans. They only have them occasionally, and they sell out fast when they do. I also bought the Demi bootcut in the heat of the summer, but I will wear them this fall since I thought it was better to wear jeans. I also have the slim flare bootcut from last winter. I have never bought many tops there but have seen some cute ones but like you think the jeans are great. I will check out all the ones you picked; they look awesome. Enjoy!!

    1. Hi Bonnie, I went over to J.Jill to check out those deep-cuff jeans you mentioned but I don’t see them so I will look out for them. The demi-boot cut look nice, though! J.Jill jeans seem a lot like Talbot’s jeans, which I really love, so I googled, Does Talbot own J.Jill, and sure enough they do! J.Jill feels similar to Talbots in that they are both classic, but J.Jill seems to be more laid back and have more muted, rather than bright colors. Interesting to find out. Thanks for your comment.
