Madewell New Spring Arrivals: Outfit Try On!
Think of two sisters. Both like to dress classic, casual, and modern. The older one is a little more preppy, and the younger one is a little more relaxed and cool.
That’s the best way to describe the difference between J.Crew and its popular little sister brand, Madewell.
Today, I thought it would be fun to try on some new spring arrivals from Madewell that I’m excited to share. Yes, I’ve bought Madewell before, but just a few things, and only at Nordstrom.
This was my first time in a Madewell store, and I was thrilled to find so many great summer pieces. Have a look!
I would love to show you everything I tried on and bought, but it’s too much for one post. So, be on the lookout for more posts of the outfits I ended up with that I’ll be modeling at home.
WHITE DENIM MIDI SKIRT
Let’s start with this fantastic denim skirt that immediately caught my eye. Midi denim skirts are trending this summer, and I was curious to try one, even though I wasn’t sure if the high front slit and the raw edge were really for me. But, surprise… I loved this skirt!
I tried it on with several different tops. This creamy striped tee with raglan sleeves has a beautiful split neckline and a cool waffle knit texture. I wanted it to work, but it didn’t feel right (Just look at the expression on my face – Lol!). The top has a relaxed fit, so it was a little loose at the waist, and slightly baggy when I tried tucking it in.
I also tried it on with these creamy off-white jeans, which I think looked better. These jeans are great.
Next, I tried on this cute cropped striped top with the drop shoulder. I liked it but the sleeves were extra long and the wide stripes felt a little overpowering. I’m on the curvy side and this felt a little too loose and boxy on me.
KICK OUT FLARE JEANS
When I changed from the denim skirt to these cute cropped jeans, I thought the striped top looked much better! These are Madewell’s bestselling Kick out Crop jeans, and they are fabulous!

Stripes with this denim midi look very nautical and summery, so I tried another striped tee, this time this sporty Supima Ribbed tee with the crew neck. I loved this look, and the bone sandals were great, too. Still, it needed a belt.
This felt good on. I felt tall and slim; the long slit up the front of the skirt didn’t bother me at all, and the unfinished hem suddenly looked beachy and cool.
It’s so exciting to find a new look. I’ve never owned a denim midi skirt! This skirt also comes in a light and medium blue wash, but the white seems more elegant, especially with that unfinished hem. It’s more me.
I wanted to see what this cute muscle tee with the ruching at the sides looked like. It’s a fantastic tee with bold shoulders, but I preferred the stripes over the solid color.
Now, back to those jeans I liked so much earlier. These are Madewell’s bestselling kick-out flare jeans. I love the style, fit, and softness of these. They’re stretchy and lightweight and feel fantastic on.
Note: I sized down one with these jeans, and apparently, that’s pretty common with Madewell jeans.
They also had these fabulous crochet knit tanks. This one, in the color Crushed Watermelon, was stunning.
I also liked this blue and white crochet tank. The high neckline is so flattering. I’m normally a size small, and this small fit me just fine.
90’s JEANS
Let’s compare those kick-out crop jeans to these straight-leg 90s-style jeans. These are comfy, high-waisted jeans, but the denim was thicker and heavier than the kick-out crop jeans. You can see how nicely they nip in at the waist but the faded wash wasn’t for me.
I tried them on with this very feminine puff-sleeve blouse, which was pretty.
Then I switched out the blue jeans for white jeans keeping the puff-sleeve top .
I love these Perfect Vintage jeans in this soft white called, Tile White! Madewell calls these mom jeans (if your mom was a 90s supermodel!)
I planned to buy them, but I had so much stuff when I checked out that the cashier forgot to add them. I’ll have to go back and pick up a pair because they felt wonderful on!
This was a soft, feminine look but I was craving something a little sportier.
So, I popped on this creamy color block tee for a sleek monochromatic look. The tone-on-tone is classy. The sandals are a perfect color match, which is so handy when they have all the matching accessories.
Finally, with monochromatic on my mind, I tried something completely different—this silky drawstring slip skirt and Micro rib sweater tee. I was sure the skirt would emphasize any bit of a belly, but it didn’t.
I think it’s an amazing find, and it feels so luxurious to swoosh around in. I feel very relaxed and modern wearing it!

WHAT DID I BUY?
OK, now after all that, what did I buy…You will find out in my next posts because I have more. I ended up with the striped tee and denim skirt and this last skirt and ribbed tee. I will let you see the rest for yourself. Could you tune in for part 2?

Hi Deborah,
On you, my fav’s:
the striped raglan tee with the ecru jeans
the b/w striped top with the kick out flare jeans
I would imagine that blue and white crochet tank would look fantastic with some blue or navy trousers.
Would have loved to see the crushed watermelon top with the off white denim midi skirt.
Looking forward to part II. Cheers, Carolyn
Hi Deb,
All the clothes looked great on you. I really liked the off white jeans and tops that you put with them. But you looked amazing in everything!
