How to Dress Casual and Cute On Memorial Day Weekend

The holiday that kicks off summer has finally arrived. What will you be doing this Memorial Day weekend? Here’s a look at some Memorial Day clothing to get you in the mood for chilling back, relaxing, having a BBQ, and enjoying some fireworks!

Memorial Day - Cropped Pants

Cropped Pants and a Cute Top

When in doubt, white cropped pants always look fabulous. This is one summer staple you won’t want to be without because there are so many ways you can style white pants.

I think a bright top always makes white pants look super fresh. Neutral accessories add that classy touch. Don’t forget that a little bit of jewelry goes a long way to elevate a casual Memorial Day Fashion look.

Memorial Day - Casual Maxi

A Maxi Dress – Why Not this Summer?

Is your pool open? If you’ve got friends coming over or you are going to someone else’s backyard for a BBQ, then this is the perfect dress for a bit of sun and a casual get-together. Flat sandals are comfy and look chic with this easy breezy maxi.

Memorial Day - Black Shorts

Shorts- Keeping it Classy

It’s starting to get hot, which means you may be thinking about wearing shorts. How can you wear them without looking like a teenager or like a frumpy old lady? Here’s a solution. Chic tailored neutral shorts keep the look elegant but not stuffy.

This pretty boho blouse is perfect when you want to keep cool but need a little arm coverage. Finish off your look with a cute textured bag and some sleek black sandals.

Striped Front Tie Top

Welcome summer in this gauzy striped shirt that knots at the waist. These breezy linen-blend top comes in the prettiest pastel shades and will give your favorite jeans a nice, summery lift.

Pop the collar on the shirt, add some fun wicker earrings, and a cute straw crossbody bag and feel a tropical vibe starts to emerge.  Rope wedge sandals are trending this season, and look great with this relaxed beachy look.

Memorial day outfits for women - Pink Blouse, white jeans, gold sandals

White Jeans

Though it’s perfectly fine to wear white year round, most northern gals start to bring their whites around May 24th. In fact, white jeans and a cute top are one of everyone’s favorite Memorial Day weekend outfits.

If the thought of summer has got you itching to switch out your blue jeans for white jeans, then try this style recipe. Wear a pair of crisp, white jeans with a bright, cheery blouse or top and a pair of cool, new, fabulous sandals.

The trick to feeling confident in white jeans is to find a pair that isn’t too tight ( I like to go up a size in white jeans), and that also is not too thin, as there’s nothing worse than pockets or undies showing through. Pair your fresh, new jeans (they do start to yellow after a year or so) with a vibrant colored top, and you’ll appear confident and classy.

Of course, shoes and a bag are the easiest way to update an outfit. These pretty gold slides are modern and chic. An off-white bag with gold hardware adds lots of sophistication too.

Athleisurewear

Comfort has become the number one priority for most women, especially at our age, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. Athleisure wear is great for Memorial Day outfits, so long as you choose casual pieces that are high quality to uplevel your look. This gorgeous cotton pullover in sky blue floats above these cloud white shorts and cute perforated sneakers.

Add a classy tote, and some cute gold sailor’s knot earrings, and you are all set for a fabulous Memorial Day weekend.

  1. I just found your blog and am enjoying it. I only have one suggestion, though. The bodies in your fashion pics seem to be very young women. Why don’t you choose pictures with bodies that are over 40? That would undoubtedly help with American women’s self-esteem.

    1. Hi Anne,
This is a big problem since the brands supply the photos! I try to supplement with blogger photos in my style stories section:https://www.fabulousafter40.com/category/style-stories/
and I also do some plus-size posts, but even though brands use more prominent women, they are always perfectly proportioned.
I’m always looking for brands that use more realistic models, so if you find one, please let me know. Right now, my hands are tied. Thank you for your comment. Cheers, Deborah

  2. I agree with you about the white cropped pants! Super versatile and keep you cool if you’re not a shorts wearer. I’ve been thinking about trying the maxi dress trend, but at 5’2″, I’m afraid I’d be overwhelmed in it, though I’ve seen so many women carry them off. Perhaps I’ll take a chance this summer!

  3. I love coral with white pants. It’s one of my favs. I added a teal green necklace and loved the pop of color it added. It worked well with the coral. I also really like the caramel brown accessories you selected. Cute! Will, I add that to my next coral/white ensemble. ?

It's your life. Make it Fabulous!
