Cheery Sundress
Celebrate Memorial Day weekend in something playful and fun, like this darling balloon-sleeve swing dress from LOFT. It’s so bright and cheery that I knew it was a take-home the second I slipped it on!
I love how loose, swingy, and relaxed it is. It’s super comfy but not the least bit frumpy. This dress has energy!
For a modern summer look, I’ve paired it with this sporty white denim jacket, my favorite low-heel silver sandals, and this big straw tote.

Cropped Wide Leg Pants and a Cute Top
Pants and a summery top are perfect for the long weekend; this year, it’s all about wide-leg styles.
I got lucky and found these fabulous cropped wide-leg pants with a cute nautical look. I love the loose, breezy cut and how these pants flow as you move about.
Some cropped wide-leg pants can be a little too short for my liking, but these are a very flattering length because they hit just above my ankle. Plus, that rope belt is adorable!
These pants look great with summer tees. Loft has some really cute ones on sale right now. But my favorite top with these pants is this red cotton knit tank. It gives this outfit a ship-shape look!
I added neutral accessories, such as these raffia slides and this earthy oversized straw tote, to make the outfit look even more beachy.
A little bit of jewelry, like my Dean Davidson Knockout pendant, goes a long way to elevating this casual Memorial Day Fashion look.
Striped Midi Dress
A casual striped dress is a must-have for summer and a stylish way to give a patriotic nod to Memorial Day. Midi styles are all the rage now; this is a beauty.
See how the wide cap sleeves on this dress and the slimming side tie help create the illusion of a smaller waistline. And that sexy side slit offsets the longer length, so you don’t look dowdy.
I’ve added some strappy gold sandals to elevate this outfit and that same straw tote to enhance the summery feel. This soft, stretchy striped dress is perfect for a casual Memorial Day weekend dinner with friends and a great thing to pack if you are going on vacation.

Shorts Set- Keeping it Classy
If it’s hot where you are and you want to wear shorts on Memorial Day weekend, how can you do so without looking like a teenager or a frumpy old lady?
Here’s a solution. A chic linen short set looks elegant but not stuffy.
I loved this vibrant red linen eyelet top and matching pull-on scalloped shorts. This is such a classy way to wear shorts at any age.
This outfit works for me because the top is modest. It has a high neckline and longer sleeves, while the shorts remain short and flirty.
Eyelet is always very ladylike, and wearing the same color top and bottom (monochromatically) gives my outfit an elegant look.
I added a structured faux leather/straw bag in a modern shape and some chic gold sandals to keep it sophisticated.
Lobster Tee | Red Shorts | Sandals
A Playful Tee
You know Memorial Day is right around the corner when all the whimsical summer tees pop up in stores. Some, like this darling pink and red lobster tee, are so cute that I can’t resist. Fashion is about having fun, no matter your age, and this tee makes me smile. Now I need to go on a beach holiday!
These are just a few great looks that say Memorial Day to me. More Great Memorial Day looks from LOFT here.

That red print dress from Loft I have been eyeing for a while. It is almost a dupe for a Rhodes dress I have seen on influencers’ pages. They didn’t say that, but I put them side by side on the computer, and they were close. I may have to buy that one, too! Looks great on you!
Thanks Bonnie, This dress has been a big hit. I think that’s because it is hard to find a sundress with sleeves and this is such a darling print. It’s on sale too. Have a great weekend!
That red dress from Loft on you – perfection! Love it!!!
I just found your blog and am enjoying it. I only have one suggestion, though. The bodies in your fashion pics seem to be very young women. Why don’t you choose pictures with bodies that are over 40? That would undoubtedly help with American women’s self-esteem.
Hi Anne,
This is a big problem since the brands supply the photos! I try to supplement with blogger photos in my style stories section:https://www.fabulousafter40.com/category/style-stories/
and I also do some plus-size posts, but even though brands use more prominent women, they are always perfectly proportioned.
I’m always looking for brands that use more realistic models, so if you find one, please let me know. Right now, my hands are tied. Thank you for your comment. Cheers, Deborah
