Patchwork: Classy Ways to Wear this Playful Trend

Patchwork, the patching together of mismatched patterns and fabric, is back in style this fall. Part crafty, part folksy, this playful, 70’s inspired trend can be a little tricky. No one wants to look like an over-40 version of Holly Hobbie.

But for gals who gravitate to a Boho or Boho-lite aesthetic, patchwork 2.0 will have definite appeal.  Here’s the classy way to wear patchwork over 40.

Boho Patchwork Peasant Top

The simplest, most elegant way to do this is to steer clear of contrasting colors and overly busy prints. Here I’ve chosen a pretty patchwork peasant top in black and white and gray that gives more of a nod to the trend without hitting you over the head with it. By keeping the rest of the outfit simple and sophisticated with black jeans, a black tote, and loafer mules, the overall effect is a look that’s classy, not kitschy.

Forget the calico prints of yesteryear that are often associated with patchwork; instead, look to this cozy sweater as an example of the modern way to wear patchwork.
