The Perfect Memorial Day Outfit to Kick off Summer!
Summer is finally on its way, and when you live in an actual four-season climate as I do, that is a big thrill! In Canada, we celebrate the start of summer on the Victoria Day long weekend (May 22rd), while in the U.S., party time is Memorial Day which falls a week later on May 29th.
Either way, everyone’s favorite long weekend is a time to eat, drink, and chill with family and friends. Even more exciting, it’s when we start bringing out our summer whites, sandals, and all our playful, bright prints! Today I’m sharing a super cute and easy-to-pull-together Memorial Day weekend outfit from Talbots that is the perfect kickoff to summer. Take a look!
Whether planning a backyard family bbq, a city walking tour, or spending a day on the water, sporty is a great way to dress on Memorial Day weekend.
Sporty means casual and relaxed with a dash of fun, and this outfit fits the bill.

I call this cute summer look Sporty Nautical with a sunny twist. Sporty style typically involves neutrals mixed with pops of bright color, in this case, white jeans with a yellow top half.
These crisp white jeans are cropped a few inches above the ankle. They are a great alternative to shorts or capris, which can often land at the broadest part of your calf and be unflattering.
I always prefer slim-cropped pants over capris. They look more modern. These also have just the right amount of stretch.
Stripes are a core element of sporty style, but this darling striped tee (similar yellow | similar green) goes one step further. ( similar blue striped tee). It combines yellow and white stripes with a soft, painterly beach scene giving this outfit a light-hearted vacation look. I’m with you that some scenic tops can look too busy or junior, but this one has a more sophisticated vibe.
If you’ve been wondering what color belt to wear with your white jeans this summer, take note. Black and brown look heavy, and a white belt with white jeans can look cheap. So how about a metallic? I have been wearing this soft gold belt (similar) with the laser cutouts a lot lately. It’s light and airy and looks great with this breezy outfit. It also comes in a lovely silver if you like cool tones.
The wow factor of this sporty All-American look is the bright yellow denim jacket. Colored jean jackets are trending, and although I could have gone with one of the other colors in the top, I loved this buttery yellow shade.
Cute gold sandals add glam and finish this polished casual outfit.
