Spring is here, and after a long, cold winter it’s finally time to start lightening things up a bit. One of the easiest and chicest ways is to swap a heavy winter sweater for a cute, lighter-weight top. Not only will it say Spring, but you’ll also be weekend-ready when you pair it with other things you already have in your closet. Check out these three easy spring weekend looks to see what I mean.
With all the flowers popping out of the ground, it’s no wonder that spring dressing tends to feature florals too. Adding a top with a floral pattern is a sure-fire way to transition to spring. There are plenty of options out there, but here I’ve kept it underrated and elegant with this embroidered floral lace top.
This pretty top checks all the boxes for us over-40 gals. It’s on-trend without being too trendy. The sheer fabric is subtly sexy without going too far. And the lightweight fabric is nice and cool, something to be appreciated should a hot flash strike.
For a slightly dressy weekend look, wear it with white jeans like the ones I show here. White jeans have become a wardrobe basic for many women, and if you don’t already have a pair, I encourage you to think about. They’re a wardrobe workhorse. (Worried you can’t pull off white jeans? You can!
Check out my tips on how to wear white pants here.) Finish it off with accessories. Tuck your black bag away until the fall and pull out or invest in one in a light color for the spring. This is a great outfit for going to the movies, drinks with friends, or lunch out.
For a more casual weekend look that’s perfect for running errands, add a pullover to your favorite pair of blue jeans. Nothing is easier than that! But instead of reaching for your trusty grey sweatshirt or t-shirt that have seen better days and are guaranteed to leave you feeling frumpy, think about upgrading.
This cozy pullover may just be the perfect casual top ever invented. I’m showing it here in a pretty spring coral, but it also comes in 9 other colors, has hundreds – yes, hundreds! – Of rave reviews and is made of soft and cozy fleece. The twisted detail at the front gem gives a nice and flattering tucked-in effect to an otherwise comfy, slouchy sweater.
The overall look is great with a pair of casual shoes – I like a slip-on sneaker because they’re casual, practical and a little bit fun – and a jacket or blazer. If you’re in the market for a new jacket this spring, think about a boyfriend blazer. You’ll be seeing a lot of them this spring and summer, and they’re ideal for the 40+ figure because they give our rounding bottles some gentle structure while still being comfy.
Sunny Spring Yellow
Adding a touch of spring color instantly updates any look so for this last look, I’ve selected an easy tunic top in yellow, one of the colors of the season. Like the coral top above, this is also a wonderful piece for any wardrobe.
Not only does it come in a variety of colors, but you can also style it in so many different ways. It works as a tunic with leggings or skinny jeans, can be belted or worn loose and flowy and looks equally good tucked in. It’s lovely on its own but also makes the perfect layering piece to go under cardigans, leather jackets or a boyfriend blazer.
