How to Style a Striped Maxi Dress – Summer Style Collab

This is the summer of the maxi for me. I’m finding myself drawn to long, causal dresses because they’re so relaxed and comfy. It seems like I’m not the only one!

Today I’m partnering with two wonderful blogger friends  Jo-Lynne Shane who is everyone’s girlfriend with the latest trends, and Cyndi Spivey who believes true beauty begins on the inside and laughter is good for the soul.  I love these ladies. We’ve met up at many conferences and they always have the latest styles on their blogs.

Today we’re bringing you a look at three beautiful maxi dresses in our Fashion Over 40 Style Series. Take a look at my dress, and then check out these two fabulous gals too!

Can you ever get enough stripes in summer? I live on the lake, and I love to go down to Bronte Harbour and walk around. It’s always so pretty there, and it’s a great way to spend the day and make it feel like you’ve had a little holiday. This vibrant striped maxi dress is perfect for that with its upbeat nautical vibe.

There are a lot of striped maxis out there, but there are a couple of things that I really love about this one. First, the colors! Instead of navy and white or black and white, which is so typical, this mix of happy, bold brights. I think it gives the dress a more playful, energetic feel.

Then there’s this cool side detail. There’s something about this diagonal stripe insert that makes me think of a boat sail or a flag. When you take a step up, or you are simpling striding along the dock, it opens up full like a fan, and it’s just so pretty.

I think what I am enjoying most about wearing a maxi (especially one like this in soft, loose, slinky material), is it makes me feel very relaxed, feminine, and a little glamorous too. This dress is super comfy to swish around in, and you can always add a cute white jean jacket if it gets cool out.

Did I mention this dress is from Calvin Klein? I own a few of his dresses. They always look great, and they’re well priced. This one also comes in a very similar color- but with cooler toned stripes (more dark purple/black). I like these warmer colors since I’m fair, but if you may like the other.  I’m wearing a size 8. I’m normally a 6 which did fit, but I like the longer length of the 8.

A great woven tote is perfect with this maxi dress, and I thought the square, oversized sunglasses were fun for a change.

If you are tired of white jeans or don’t want to wear shorts, a summer maxi like this is a nice change. This striped maxi dress also comes in Petite and Plus Size. You can click the links below to shop for this look.

Be sure to hop on over to Jolynne’s blog and Cyndi’s blog to see their cute maxi looks too. Long seems to be where it is at this summer!

  1. This is a gorgeous look on you! Beautiful dress on a beautiful lady! The harbour back drop is perfect look for this outfit too! We are in land locked Calgary so enjoy the pics of the harbour. Maxi dresses are a perfect alternative to shorts and white jeans.

  2. I love it! It’s bright and cheerful and tge side insert makes it different from all the others. For reference, how tall are Deborah?

    1. Thanks Joanna, I’m 5’7″ and I usually wear a size 6, but I wanted this a little longer so I went with the 8. Much better for those days when I’m a bit bloated too- hah!

  3. The one dress I love out of the three, and it doesn’t ship to Canada. Womp womp womp ! 😔😔😔

    1. Sandi, it sure does ship to Canada! Click the amazon link in the post for this dress and it should take you to the Canadian Amazon site. I’m in Burlington, Ontario and that’s where I ordered it from. If you have a problem let me know and I’ll fix it.
      Cheers, Deb
