White House Black Market Fall Try On
White House Black Market targets women 25+, but how well do their fashions translate for women our age?
I popped over to see what was new and do a Fall try-on. Join me in the dressing room to have a peek.
Navy Cropped Pants, Teal Tweed Jacket
Remember when White House Black Market used to be just that – all black and white? Well, they have long branched out, and this gorgeous Teal Tweed jacket was the first thing that caught my eye when I walked in.
It’s a classic Chanel-inspired style with cute fringe and classy gold buttons. This trendy teal color gives it a modern vibe and makes this jacket look much more youthful than traditional colors like camel, brown, gray, etc.
I’m wearing this jacket with WHBM Elle Slim Ankle Comfort Stretch Pants, which fit true to size and are stretchy and super comfy.
We usually see these types of jackets with black pants, but the navy feels fresh and uplifting as we head into October.
Navy Cropped Pants, Green Sleeveless Turtleneck
I loved this Boucle Turtleneck Sweater Tank. The color was gorgeous, and the Boucle texture not only looks good, but it was super soft. The only thing was it wasn’t practical for me because I get too cold in winter.
You could wear it with the teal jacket above, and it would look fabulous but I prefer the jacket on its own. It’s a little more formal than wearing it with the turtleneck, but I like the look.
There’s those Elle Slim Ankle Comfort Stretch Pants again. They’re really nice pants and are great for gals our age who are generally more concerned about comfort.
Navy Cropped Pants, Burgundy Ribbed Sweater
Another sweater that caught my eye was this Ribbed Raglan Pullover Sweater. So, while I had my Elle Slim Ankle Comfort Stretch Pants on, I thought I would give it a try.
The lovely burgundy color drew me in as well, as did that interesting neckline, which is like a rounded square neck. I thought it was very flattering because it opens up the chest without being too revealing. I also like that this is a lightweight sweater. Since menopause, I can’t stand anything too hot!
Faux Leather Pants, Black and White Tweed Jacket
Now, this was a darling find. I was surprised how much I loved this Braided Trim Tweed Jacket because it looked fairly traditional on the hanger, and I don’t usually wear a lot of black and white, as it washes me out.
However, the braided trim really stood out when I tried it on, and the fit was so good! In fact, I found the fit of most of the clothes at WHBM very good and true to size.
I could have worn typical black wide-leg pants with this, but they felt a bit old, so I added a bit of an edge with these fantastic high-rise slim faux leather pants.
These are amazing pants (I bought them). They come up very high on your waist, so they are very comfortable, and I love the classy slim straight leg with the permanent pleat down the front. I felt so good in these and loved the way they gave this jacket a more “with it” look!
Animal Print Dress
Oh, animal print. It is in the stores everywhere including White House Black Market. This slinky Matte Jersey Side Ruched Dress is a sexy little number.
But I did have to size up in this one to a medium. Even then, it was pretty form fitting, so all I can say is if you are flat as a board or you don’t mind wearing tight shapewear for a few hours, this is a good one. For myself, I don’t want to think about sucking in my stomach all night (lol!), so I left this one on the rack.
Quick note about the shoes I am wearing in all these photographs. They’re mine. I brought them with me as I usually do when I shop.
It makes it so much easier to makes decisions about things when you shoes on instead of bare feet! They’re black, low heeled slingbacks from Amazon and I love them. I wear them with everything if you haven’t already noticed!
Leather Pull-on Pants, Camel Sweater
Go wide or go home. o.k. I’m going home…and I will tell you why. Although I really liked this Wide collar pullover sweater it kept flopping open revealing my cleavage.
I’ve positioned it just so for this photo, but in real life I’d probably have to use some fashion tape to hold down the collar if I bought it. As for these Extra High Rise coated Pull on Flare Jeans, they were a pass too.
They were fitted like leggings, so kind of snug, but what I didn’t care for was the feel. Coated jeans feel weird, at least to me. Since they’re tight like leggings I think they would look better with a slightly longer top.
Not terrible, but not my cup of tea.
Leather Pants, Green Ribbed Sweater
You can see that Teal is trending. This was an interesting sweater. It’s a Pleated Shoulder V-neck Sweater, size small in my case. I’m wearing it with those high-rise slim faux leather pants I showed you.
Take a second look at the shoulder. Do you see the pleat that you will either love or hate? I said yes because a) it was different, and b) it made my shoulders look wider, which always made my waist look smaller and gave me more of an hourglass shape.
This sweater is also rather fitted compared to some, and I like that. I like those big chunky sweaters, but sometimes you just want something more sleek and feminine.
Leather Pants, Long Cardigan
Do you like dusters? This Cable-Stitch Duster was hanging on a dressing room door, so I slipped it on with the Boucle Turtleneck Sweater Tank I showed you earlier and these High-rise slim faux leather pants. What an elegant look!
The duster is very airy and lightweight, which is such a lovely change from all those heavy, long cardigans out there. It has beautiful stitching and is the prettiest light dove gray color. Typically I stay clear of gray because I find it depressing but this was more like white tinged with light gray. Lovely!
Leather Pants, Sleeveless Turtleneck
I just wanted to show you what these high-rise slim faux leather pants looked like with just the Boucle Turtleneck Sweater Tank. I added a gold necklace to jazz it up. It’s really fabulous if you don’t mind being sleeveless.
Leather Pants, Teal Tweed Jacket
And we are almost back to square one. Here’s that gorgeous Teal Tweed Jacket I showed you at the start. Can you see the beautiful shape and how it nips in at the waist?
This time, instead of wearing it with the blue cropped pants, I’m wearing it with the high-rise slim faux leather pants. I think it is a fantastic look. Now, which one of these looks is your favorite? Can you guess mine? I really love both jackets, and I ended up buying the leather pants.
I can’t get that turtleneck out of my mind either, so I may cave and order it online. It’s pretty darn cute!
The Verdict
I think you can agree that WHBM is truly classic with a modern twist and really quite ageless. I’ve rediscovered this brand after many years, and I plan to keep checking in from time to time to see what’s new and noteworthy, so stay tuned!

What great finds at WHBM! They looked very chic and appropriate for someone over 40. :) Frankly, I think the outfits look better on you than on the models on the retailer’s website.
Hi Carolyn! Thanks for the lovely compliment. I was really impressed with the jackets in particular. They fit well and looked very classy. Loved the high waisted leather pants and bought them. I’ll model them with some other things later. Cheers! Deb
