What to Wear to the Beach to Look Cute and Feel Confident

A trip to the beach can be a relaxing, heavenly experience or a self-conscious nightmare. It all depends on how you’re feeling about what you’re wearing. If you want to take the stress out of dressing for the beach, here are a few simple style tips to look fabulous and feel confident.

1. Wear a Swimsuit that Camouflages Problem Areas

Going to the beach is much more enjoyable when you feel good about your body and know you’re looking hot! The secret is to downplay your trouble spot while highlighting your best bits. This sleek black swimsuit helps camouflage problem spots in a couple of ways:

1) A solid-colored swimsuit in a dark color visually shrinks your body. 2)Floral-blocked sides carve out a waist and make you look slim. The other great thing about this swimsuit? It has a sexy sheer neckline that adds instant glamour and more shape to your bustline.

2. Choose a Slightly Sexy Beachwear Coverup

A beach coverup is just as crucial as your swimsuit, maybe more! Throwing on a baggy t-shirt or unattractive top will make you feel and look frumpy. Try to find a beach coverup with the same style personality as your swimsuit, which is a tad bit sexy.

If you are going with a boho-inspired swimsuit, tassels, pompoms, or fringe, choose a boho-style poncho in a natural fabric to go with it. Prefer a swimsuit with an exotic tropical print? Then think about pairing it up with a sexy sarong.

4. Wear Pretty Sandals

You’ve gone to all that work to get a nice pedicure; now, show it off with a pretty pair of flats. A sandal with a sparkly bow, beading, or a metallic finish gives you poolside glam.

4. Glam Sunglasses Add Style

One of the women’s most stylish beachwear accessories is a chic pair of sunglasses. For guaranteed glam, go big or go home! Oversize is always in style.

It can be canvas, straw, or some mix, but make sure it is colorful, large, and lightweight to go with your overall beachy look.

  1. I don’t think anyone feels “great” at the beach! ?…regarding what we are wearing, that is! The main thing is to be and feel confident with yourself. That will exuberate outward—you can have any swimsuit on and rock it!! Heck, what about a thong bikini? ? Lol. I’ll pass, but go for it!!!

    1. Hi Liz,
A lovely dress with a low-medium heel is always beautiful if you are standing. Just stay away from black colors that could wash you out, and don’t forget some blush, mascara, and lipstick. They make a big difference in photos. Cheers, Deborah

  2. Hi, I love your information and your style ideas. I am 58, in average size, and looking for new jeans, but I struggle with picking the right ones. I am 5 foot five and weigh 190. I Call it muscle. I do not know what type of pants to buy, and I am terrible at dressing myself! Very out-of-date ideas and styles in my closet. Of course, my poor budget prevails. Do you have any ideas for me?? Thank you so much. I love your blog, excellent website information, focus, and healthy-looking women that you Continue to support for all of us.

    1. Hi Catherine, Thanks for your encouragement. It’s hard to know what to recommend as I’m unclear where you carry your weight. Is it mainly your tummy and your legs are slim, or do you have your weight in your thighs, or is it mainly in your bottom? Would you say your body is a curvy full hourglass, pear-shaped with the most weight in hips and thighs, an inverted triangle with weight up at bust and slim legs, or rectangular-no waist and solid up and down?

  3. Isn’t it so hard to figure out what to wear to the beach?! It has to be practical, but at the same time, you have to look and feel AMAZING :)

It's your life. Make it Fabulous!
