Best Capri Pants for Your Vacation Down South

If you’re planning a hot and beachy trip this winter, like to Florida or the Caribbean, capris may be on your packing list.

Today, I’m zeroing in on women’s capris and sharing a few ideas on how to style them to keep cool and look modern.

Olive Capris to Get You There

Neutrals are always very practical for traveling but you want to look cute. So how about these utilitarian olive green capris and a sporty striped top?

Wear this outfit with sneakers to get you through the airport comfy and without blisters. A stylish, easy to carry backpack purse if perfect for a long flight.

Denim Capris Print Poncho

Denim Capris for an Easy Daytime Look

No matter where your travels take you, there will be days when you need something chic yet easy for running around and sightseeing. For those times, a pair of cool denim capris and cute slides is the answer. Keep it stylish with a floral poncho jacket.

I love the colors and fringe in this one from Chicos. It elevates denim capris but will also look amazing with white jeans.

White Capris Jeans for Casual Cocktails

White jeans are cool and should be a staple in every woman’s closet. (Afraid white jeans might make you look heavy?  Check out this article on how to wear white pants without looking fat.)

You can wear them with many things, from a simple black t-shirt and slides, a la Jackie Kennedy, to a sparkly metallic top and strappy sandals for a fun evening out.

I’ve paired white capris pants with a classic button-down shirt with a twist and nude-heeled mules. I prefer the nude color of these shoes over black for achieving a long, lean leg line.

Dressy Capris for Evening

The vibe in many southern destinations, evening during the evening, is relaxed. One of the easiest ways to look dressy without being too dressed up is to pair a lacy, floaty top with a pair of dressy capris and sandals.

This cute white pair with black piping is new and different. Add pretty earrings and a chic bag, and you’re done.

Linen Capris Print Top

Linen Capris for Everything

Here’s another popular idea for wearing capris. When you need clarification on your day (or evening), you can’t go wrong with linen capris in a figure-flattering cut.

Linen is a warm weather favorite because it keeps you cool in the heat, and this pair, with a fluid and elongating drape, looks chic no matter what you pair it with. Here, I’ve paired them with a gorgeous print top. With comfy block heel sandals and purses in coordinating colors, this look will take you from day to night.

Will you be packing capris for your southern vacation this year?

  1. I just finished reading about southern vacations this winter. Although I’m not planning a break, I did pick up the idea of wearing black capris with booties. I’d never thought of that in the winter. I live in TN, so our weather has been mild this winter. I will keep this in mind when I’m out & about on a more casual outing. Thanks for all the terrific ideas and tips. I’m so glad I found your website. Have a wonderful holiday season.

  2. These outfits are lovely, but for December, unless you are going to Key West, they are not what women in the South wear. I am in NC and am wearing a cozy sweater and Ponte knit pants. It is in the 40s right now. Even if we have a warm snap, we stay seasonal and don’t wear summer clothing in the winter – just lighter things. For example, white jeans with a lightweight black/navy/cream sweater and loafers. No sandals. We do get snow here. But perhaps this is for a cruise or Florida.

    1. Hi Karen, I’m in Toronto, so when we say down south, we generally mean Florida or south of that, as well as Caribbean cruises. I have friends in NC, and they tell me the same. It’s not that warm. Even in Florida, there can be cold snaps in December. I remember being in Boca, driving to Orlando to Disney in December, and freezing because it was so cold and windy. With the crazy weather we are having all over the world, I need to take a variety of things when I travel anywhere, just in case. Layers are the best way to go because you can warm up or cool down. Thanks for your tips on NC weather and what to wear. I’m sure that will help anyone planning a winter vacation there. Cheers, Deborah
