Hi, ladies!  Spring is finally here, which means it’s time to slip on a colorful spring dress and embrace the sunshine! From Easter brunches to Mother’s Day celebrations, graduation ceremonies, and wedding showers, there’s no shortage of occasions to show off your style.

I’ve been on a mission to find the best colorful spring dresses for gals our age, and I’ve hit the jackpot! Today, I’m sharing  2 bright floral dresses I took on my recent trip to Florida – the ultimate spring destination! Check out these cheery favorites I’ll be wearing on repeat well into summer!

There’s no shortage of colorful spring dresses, but the challenge is finding one that is vibrant yet still sophisticated.

I find many bright dresses too short, frilly, and junior-looking for me like I’ve raided my daughter’s closet! Or, they’re the opposite – colorful, long, and baggy like a mumu. Where’s the sweet spot?

Luckily, Talbots has a great selection of colorful dresses for us grown-up gals. For example, I love this pretty pink wrap dress. It is bright, fun, and easy to wear at any age.

There are a few reasons it works so well. I like to keep these in mind when I’m shopping for any colorful spring dress.

#1 Choose a Bright Colored Dress with a Classic Cut

I always say the brighter the color of the dress, the simpler it should be if you want a more elegant look.

This beautiful wrap dress is a good example of what I’m talking about. It’s very colorful, and the print is busy, but the dress looks fabulous because it has a classic, streamlined cut.

There’s also minimal detail, making the dress an excellent backdrop for this stylish, colorful print.

# 2 Choose a Conservative Length

A short, breezy, colorful spring dress or a long, sweeping, bright maxi is cute and fun for the beach, backyard, or vacation.

But other than that, a more classic length is flattering.  A dress that hits just above, at, or just below the knee is conservative and helps balance out the very playful vibe of a brightly colored spring dress.

#3 Stick to Two Colors

Another way to wear a colorful spring dress and look classy, not clownish, is to choose a print with only two colors. This isn’t to say you can’t look fabulous in multicolor print, but two bold colors simplify things and can look modern and youthful.

This charming pink and orange floral dress is a great example of that. It’s fresh, punchy, and on-trend.

#4 Focus on Fit

Dark colors minimize an area worn over, while bright colors enlarge the area, so fit is important when wearing a colorful spring dress.

Don’t hide behind baggy styles, no matter what size you are. They are only going to make you look bigger and frumpy.

Instead, look for colorful spring dresses that gently follow your shape and flatter your figure.  For a more youthful look, define your waist with a dress with tailoring, a belt, or ruching.

# 5 Wear Neutral Accessories

When I wear bright-colored dresses, I like to pair them with neutral shoes and accessories. This way, the focus is on the dress, and my colorful outfit doesn’t become too loud and garish. Above, I’m wearing nude sandals and carrying an ivory bag. With the first outfit, I’m wearing gold sandals. All metallics are considered neutrals.
