Fall Weekend Wardrobe Capsules for Warm and Cool Tones
When Fall rolls around, one of my favorite things to do is create a weekend wardrobe capsule. You know, that small, mix-and-match collection of pieces that all work beautifully together so you can grab and go without thinking too hard about what to wear.
You can have a capsule for work, one for evenings out, and—my favorite—one for the weekends. Whether you’re heading out for errands, brunch, or a cozy dinner, a weekend capsule keeps life (and your closet) simple and chic.
This season, there are so many gorgeous colors to play with (you might remember them from my Fall 2025 Color Report). To make things easy, I’ve created two Fall weekend capsules—one for warm-toned gals and one for cool-toned gals.
How to Tell If You’re Warm- or Cool-Toned
Warm-toned women have golden, peachy, or honey undertones to their skin. Hair often shows hints of gold, red, or caramel, and eyes may have a golden or greenish sparkle. Warm-toned women Fall into two seasonal types:
- Spring – clear, warm, and bright (think golden blonde or strawberry tones).
- Autumn – warm and muted, with earthy depth (think chestnut, copper, or auburn hues).
Cool-toned women have rosy, pink, or slightly olive undertones. Hair may lean ash blonde, silver, or espresso, and eyes often look blue, gray, or cool hazel. Cool-toned gals belong to:
- Summer – cool and soft, with muted, powdery tones.
- Winter – cool and clear, with dramatic contrast and depth.

The Warm-Toned Weekend Capsule
This capsule is for my Springs and Autumns—women who glow in warm, earthy, golden tones. This Fall, warm-toned gals will look stunning in shades like burnt orange, rust, camel, golden brown, and olive. This capsule features all those cozy hues, from the spice-colored turtleneck and two-tone tan sweater to the floral print top that ties everything together. Add texture with corduroy drawstring pants or a button-front skirt, and finish with classic denim for versatility.
Try pairing:
- Rust sweater, wide-leg jeans, and suede ankle boots for an easy weekend coffee look.
- Camel/ivory color-block sweater + rust corduroy pants for a warm, relaxed tone-on-tone outfit.
- Floral print top + plum button-front skirt + suede blazer for a polished brunch look.
- Swap in leopard flats or knee-high boots, add a tan crossbody, and a gold bracelet stack to finish any combo.

The Cool-Toned Weekend Capsule
If you’re a Summer or Winter, this one’s for you. Cool-toned women shine in shades with blue or gray undertones, and this capsule captures that perfectly—navy, icy blue, plum, emerald green, and black.
Try mixing:
- Navy printed blouse + dark-wash jeans + burgundy loafers for polished-casual days.
- Light blue cardigan under the plaid blazer for a fresh tonal combo that feels classic yet modern.
- Teal sweater dress + black ankle boots + structured belt for an easy dinner look.
- Top everything with the deep green wool coat; add silver jewelry and a burgundy bucket bag to pull it all together.
Why I Love a Weekend Capsule
A weekend capsule saves time and energy—and makes getting dressed fun again. You don’t have to stand in your closet wondering what works together; everything does! Start small: six to eight pieces that mix and match, plus your favorite accessories. Once you’ve built your capsule around your color season, you can swap pieces in and out as the weather changes.
It’s a smart, stylish way to Tweak Your Chic® for Fall—and to remind yourself that looking fabulous doesn’t have to be complicated.

BRILLIANT! What great capsules, and a fantastic explanation of women’s seasonal coloring. I am loving that warm-toned capsule, and have my own version of nearly every item you featured, except that little scarf from Talbots… which just might have to join my scarf collection sometime soon! ;-)
Hi Carolyn, Wow! You are a super shopper. Curious, are you warm or cool toned? I’m warm and I’m naturally drawn to these warm fall colors. (I’m a spring!)
I’m warm-toned I’m an Autumn, specifically a Blue Autumn (also called Deep Autumn), the least warm, but deepest end of the Autumn spectrum. And thank you, lol, I am motivated by efficiency. I do not like having wardrobe gaps, so I have taken the time and effort to carefully curate my closet for year round versatility.
