Farm Rio Dresses : Lovely or Loud after 50?
Many women our age are embracing the Quiet Luxury trend of simple silhouettes and understated monochromatic outfits, but if that’s just too boring for you, there’s Farm Rio! This wildly popular Brazilian brand takes a completely different approach. Farm Rio is famous for its vibrant colors and bold, exciting prints that wake you up and put a big smile on your face.
There is no doubt about it: Farm Rio dresses pack a punch! But are they too loud to be flattering after 50? I tried some on—you be the judge.

Colorful, Fun Maxi Sundress
I’m all for color at any age. Too often I see older women fall into a black hole, avoid color, and hide behind frumpy, black outfits.
Color is energy and can do wonders to lift you up and make you look modern and youthful. That said, Farm Rio is wildly creative and can seem over-the-top if you view a large collection grouped together somewhere like Nordstrom.
My advice? Take the time to try on each dress, one by one, as I did, I bet you’ll find they have some amazing dresses to spice up your summer wardrobe.
This darling red and white linen maxi was my favorite. It’s exciting, fun, and a little sexy, too—the kind of dress I’d take on vacation or wear to a pool party. I adore the whimsical print, and the beautiful empire waist is so flattering.
The lace tie front turned out to be stunning. Surprisingly, I was okay with the spaghetti traps, which I initially hesitated about. (I can always wear a cute white denim jacket if I get chilly!)
The best part is that this Maxi feels so glam, but because it’s linen, it’s also casual.
Slinky Black Botanical Midi
If the first dress I shared was too bright red for you, then here’s one you might like better. The Jersey tropical midi is sleek and stretchy and gives you a beautiful shape.
Yes, it’s colorful, but those bright botanicals are set against an inky black background, making this dress look sophisticated (and slimming, too).
It’s always hard to find summer dresses that cover your arms, so I was happy they have elbow-length sleeves.
This exotic print dress has a totally different look than the first dress, but it is just as beautiful. It feels a little more dressy and cocktail-like.

Sweet Romantic Ruffle Maxi
Feminine sundresses with tiers and ruffles are where it’s at this summer.
This pretty cotton one is lively and colorful, but I wouldn’t say it’s loud like a Hawaiian shirt. The muted blue background color tones it down.
The traditional floral print gives this dress a garden party look and feel. It would be great for any summer get-together because it’s classic and easygoing.
And even though I’m not a huge ruffle wearer, this more formal pleated ruffle suited me just fine!

Your turn to weigh in. What do you think? Is Farm Rio, lovely or too loud for your style?
I love Farm Rio dresses in short lengths. The longer length is great for you !!! Being 4’11”, I prefer the shorter knee length or close to it. I think they are loud in a lovely way…….a bolt of sunshine for summer.
Hi Bonnie, That’s so interesting. I tried on their short dresses and they looked like long tops! (I’m 5″7″) Glad they work for you!
