How to Get Coastal Grandma Style
Suddenly it’s cool to look like a grandma – a Coastal Grandma!
Coastal grandma style is taking the Internet by storm. Every gal, from women in their 60s and 70s to those in their 20s and 30s, is clamoring to get in on the latest fashion craze.
What is coastal grandma style, you ask? Simply put, it’s an aspirational lifestyle made famous by Diane Keaton’s character in the movie Something’s Gotta Give, emphasizing home decor, fashion, and more.
You don’t have to be a grandma to wear the trend. Anyone can wear it, and in fact, everyone loves it. It’s defined by white or very neutral-colored clothes.
Think beige, cream, bone, tan, and pastel shades of pink and blue. It’s comfy, wide-leg linen pants and oversized button-down shirts. It’s straw bags and beach hats. It’s a bit of everything you think of when you think of relaxing strolls on the beach.
How do you put together a coastal grandma style outfit? I’ve got some ideas for you.
This mood board is the very definition of coastal grandma style. You’ve got the wide-leg pants, a striped tee, and lightweight, loose-fitting sweater, and the straw beach hat.
Here’s my version of this relaxed, coastal look. I paired some white linen drawstring pants with a white v-neck tee. I added a pink striped cotton shirt as a jacket.
Then I accessorized with a straw bag and shell pink faux vegan sandals and pink sunglasses.
Heading out to meet a friend for a seaside lunch? This outfit is polished yet comfortable.
Here we have a pair of slimmer cropped pants in that khaki color that’s so popular with this trend paired with a simple pastel pink tank and cozy white cardigan in case the sea breeze picks up. Some slip-on sneakers and a straw bag complete this coastal chic look.
Doing a weekend morning run for coffee or to the farmers’ market? This breezy outfit will get you there in style. The wide-leg pants paired with a simple canvas sneaker give the pants a dressed-down effect.
Pair them with a striped button-down shirt, and toss this boatneck sweater over your shoulders for those places where the air conditioning is just a tad chilly.
There is much to love about Coastal Grandma style, no matter your age or where you live. Try this easy-breezy look with the super relaxed vibe for a fresh new look this summer!
I enjoyed reading your blog today and would love to receive more posts! Thank you, Susan.
I love the coastal grandma-style!! Always classy and fun!
I forgot to add. You’re going to laugh. I bought wide-leg pants that fit me perfectly in the girls’ department at Dillard’s. My granddaughter, who’s 11, was trying on clothes. I grabbed the pants and a top in a size XL. They fit perfectly. I just hoped the lady didn’t notice the size. My granddaughter is a size medium. She said Nana is now shopping in the kid’s department. I now have about four pieces from the girl’s department. They are not childish. My daughter couldn’t believe it. Lol.
I like wide-leg pants with a more fitted top. I’m petite, so oversized tops overwhelmed me. Overall I like the look; just minor changes for me.
Something’s Gotta Give is one of my favorite movies to watch for home design and fashion. It’s classic with a laid back timeless look. At 61, I am not a Grandma yet, but it is my home design and style aesthetic. I add a drop of romantic in for good measure.
