7 Tips for Glowing Skin After Age 40
When you look in the mirror, do you wonder why your skin can’t look the same as it did in your 20’s 30s? Here are six tips to get your skin to look more youthful and glowing after 40.
1. Always Cleanse Your Face
Wash the day’s dirt and grime and makeup off your face so your skincare can do its work. Nighttime is the best time for your skin to repair itself, and starting with a clean palette is essential. Look for a cleanser labeled “gentle.”
2. Use a Stabilized Vitamin C
Vitamin C is vital to protecting the skin from future damage from the sun and the environment. But for it to work, it must be in a stabilized form. Look for a dark bottle that must be used within six months. Otherwise, it is useless. SkinCeuticals and others offer great choices.

3. Don’t Forget a Retinoid Product
There are many to choose from, from over-the-counter versions to much stronger prescription ones. Retinoids are the only proven product to reverse signs of aging. They take a bit for the skin to adjust, so begin slowly and work your way up in strength.
4. Choose a Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acids reportedly hold nearly 1,000 times their weight in water, so your skin looks plumped and less wrinkled.
5. Peptides are Important
Peptides have been known to interact with your skin to do various things, such as stimulating collagen production – another factor in keeping skin youthful-looking.
6. Always Apply Sunscreen
Some beauty products like retinoids can increase your sun sensitivity, so sunscreen is a must.
7. Try a Led Mask
LED Light Therapy Masks utilize red light therapy to promote anti-aging and reducing inflammation. They increase in the amount of collagen in the skin, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and other stigmata of aging and give you a youthful glow.

These are all right on the money–especially regarding retinoid products. However–and I’ll preface by saying that I am not a doctor or any other type of medical professional–from what I’ve seen and researched, NOTHING on the market works as well as prescription products. I don’t care what the ads say.
In addition, whether we like it or not, even the best skin care regimen and healthy habits can’t compete with products like Botox, Radiesse, etc., and cosmetic surgery. They just plain can’t.
I say this because I am so tired of companies, articles, ads, photos, etc., slanting their messages to imply that they can. It builds up false hopes based upon unrealistic expectations and perpetuates the pressures women face to look young. And I speak from experience because I’m one of those women, and as I approach 50, I am having a hell of a time getting past this.
Any suggestions?
