My Fab Way To Wear A Fringe Skirt
Isn’t it funny that when you’re not looking for something, it falls into your lap? That was the case with this black fringe leather skirt.
I had seen fringe skirts in magazines and on twenty-something bloggers and figured the look was too trendy and boho for my taste. Many of them looked like costumes because they were extremely short or were loaded down with tons of super long, spaghetti-like fringe.
Then I came across this skirt. It’s black leather, and it’s got fringe, which makes it a little edgy, but it still has an elegant quality to it.
I knew it was for me. It’s from Canadian designer Pink Tartan.
I love the length ( it just grazes the top of the knee), and the shorter, less flashy fringe feels right for me. It’s also a wrap pencil skirt style, which is very sophisticated and does wonder for your figure.
There are many things I could have worn this with such as a tie blouse (so popular at the moment), a big chunky sweater, or a crisp shirt, but I decided to go with a thin ribbed knit sweater in this gorgeous Marsala shade. My crystal flower necklace adds a bright touch.
My bag- well, I’ve had that for a couple of years. It’s a Yves St. Laurent – a treat to myself. I was nuts about the cognac color.
How do you like these lace-up pointy toe pumps? Since I bought these, I’ve seen them everywhere. I love the way the crisscross ties hang down and mirror the fringe.
I added a belt and pushed up my sleeves to give my outfit a sporty, youthful feel.
I pondered about what to wear on my legs. Of course, all the young gals wear bare legs, but I can’t. My legs are white as a ghost, they get cold, and I’ve got spider veins. Sheer nylons seemed dated and black opaque which could have worked, seemed heavy. Since I wanted the fringe and the sexy ties on the shoes to really show up, I chose ultra sheer black stockings. Apparently, they’re making a big comeback. I’m so glad because they’re very flattering.
The best part of wearing fringe? When you walk it swishes, and you feel very feminine and flirty. A fringed skirt is fun!
Check out fringe. You may be as surprised to wear a fringe skirt as I was.
Black stockings solve all the problems with bare legs. It looks classy! You have great legs, to be honest. Red and black work for you!
I love it, Love it, Love it! I would wear it and show some legs :D
I love everything about your fringe skirt outfit. What is the brand of your sheer black stockings? They look just right.
Hi Teja, Thanks for the compliment. My stockings are Hanes Silk reflections- silky sheer. I hope that helps. Cheers, Deborah
I love the look of the ultra sheer black stockings too. I had a wedding last year and didn’t want to go bare-legged – December wedding. One of my fashion-forward friends who attended many weddings after five suggested ultra sheer in barely black – so glad I had her for helping!!!
How do you keep your belt in place? Is it worn just above the skirt’s waistband or right on the band of the dress? Thanks!
Hi Rachelle, It’s sitting on the waistband. I didn’t seem to have any problem with it riding up. Cheers, Deborah
What to wear on my legs is also a battle for me because I like wearing skirts and dresses but don’t always want to go bare legs, especially in the winter (I am a true desert rat). So I’m thrilled to hear that opaque black stockings are back in!!
What a fun skirt! I like the length and that the fringe isn’t “too out there.” Great sweater, necklace, & shoes, too!
The skirt looks very good on you. Not sure I would dare to go there. It would draw attention to my legs too much.
