Over 50? This Is the Brand That Refuses to Let You Dress Boring

When you hear the name Lilly Pulitzer, your mind likely drifts to images of Palm Beach garden parties, chilled pink lemonade, and those iconic, vibrant prints. I’ve loved and worn this brand for years, and can tell you that Lilly is more than just resort wear. It’s a lifestyle.

Whether you’re packing for a Florida getaway, a cruise, or simply looking to add some feel-good color to your everyday wardrobe, there’s something about Lilly that’s instantly uplifting.

In this Lilly Pulitzer review for women over 50, I’m sharing what I’ve learned— from navigating the new Spring 2026 arrivals to mastering the perfect fit, and which styles are the most flattering.

This equestrian-inspired Sonaire Midi Shirtdress features the Galloping Gals print, a classic pulled straight from the 1976 archives for the Year of the Horse.

Before I get into my personal review, it helps to know the story—because that’s part of the charm.

Lilly Pulitzer wasn’t originally a designer. She was a Palm Beach socialite who opened a juice stand in 1959 and needed something to hide the spills on her clothes. Her solution? A collection of sleeveless shift dresses in bright, cheerful prints.

Customers loved them—then Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was photographed wearing one, and the brand took off.

Today, Lilly Pulitzer is known for its vibrant prints, easy, feel-good silhouettes, and that unmistakable Palm Beach style—colorful, polished, and just a little preppy.

Every print is hand-painted in the Lilly Pulitzer print studio. If you look closely at the patterns, you will find the name “Lilly” hidden within the artwork—a signature mark of authenticity.

Why I love Lilly Pulitzer and why I think YOU will too

What I love most about Lilly is that it has zero interest in making you look or feel invisible. So many brands play it safe with neutrals and shapeless silhouettes for women our age. Lilly goes the other direction completely. It says: you are fabulous, you deserve beautiful clothes, and life is too short for boring.

Lilly Pulitzer has grown so much beyond pure vacation wear. Yes, it is still absolutely perfect if you are heading to Florida, Hawaii, the Caribbean, or anywhere warm and sunny. But they have been building out a gorgeous range of everyday pieces, too.

Where can you buy Lilly Pulitzer?

You can shop the full collection directly at lillypulitzer.com, which regularly runs promotions and offers free shipping on many orders. They also have standalone retail stores in cities and resort towns across the U.S., if you want the full, colorful Lilly experience!

Lilly Pulitzer Sizing Guide

A lot of gals wonder: “Does Lilly Pulitzer run true to size?” For women over 50, the answer depends entirely on the fabric and the silhouette. Here is the shortcut to getting the right fit the first time.

Item TypeHow It RunsMy Recommendation
Shift & structured dressesRuns slightly smallSize up one
Flutter & smocked dressesTrue to sizeStick to your usual size
Polo & collared dressesRuns slightly smallSize up if between sizes
Skipper Popover & topsRuns generousTrue to size or size down
Pants & lounge setsTrue to size, relaxed fitStick to your usual size

A note for my taller friends: Lilly dresses tend to hit just above the knee, and if you are tall or have long legs, that can feel quite short. You can either wear flats, which I think look best with short sundresses,s regardless, or opt for one of their beautiful midis or maxis, if you prefer more coverage.

For my petite ladies, you’ll be absolutely thrilled with the proportions on most of these styles.

My Favorite Lilly Pulitzer Pieces for Spring 2026

Cameron Popover Dress in Starlight Navy Zoology

Here’s a dress I reach for when I want to look cute and perky, but I’m feeling a little thick through the middle. This classic shift silhouette is very flattering for women over 50 because it has a relaxed shape that skims over the tummy and hips without clinging. It’s also super soft and comfy, too.

I love the bright gold buttons against the artsy cobalt blue print, and the big patch pockets keep the dress feeling relaxed. Gold strappy sandals are a classy finishing touch, and Bella, my pup, gives her seal of approval, too!

Abralynn Linen Shirtdress in Capri Blue Saint Tropez Stripe

This blue-striped shirtdress is giving me spring and summer vacation energy, and I am here for it! The smocked waist is such a clever detail because it gives you a beautiful shape without feeling tight or uncomfortable. This pinstripe dress is exactly the kind of piece that Lilly Pulitzer has been adding to its everyday lineup, making the brand more wearable beyond vacation.

When I throw on my favorite gold sandals and sunglasses, I’m ready to step out in the summer to run a few errands or meet a friend for lunch.

Alora Maxi Dress in Pistachio Macaron X Resort White

I’ll be honest—when I first saw this Alora Maxi, I wasn’t sure. It looked very loose and beachy, like one of those long linen dresses that could go a little frumpy, and it wasn’t something I’d normally reach for.

But once I slipped it on, it was a completely different story. It’s much more streamlined than it looks, and it really grew on me. Now I love it.

Soft, muted greens are a big trend for 2026, and this pistachio shade is especially beautiful in person—fresh, subtle, and so easy to wear if you like color but don’t want anything too bold. The tiered silhouette has lovely movement without feeling overwhelming, and the linen keeps it light and breathable on warm days.

It’s the kind of dress you can wear to a beach dinner or a casual daytime event—add simple sandals and a straw bag, and you’re done.

Abralynn Linen Shirtdress in Poppyland

This vibrant Poppyland floral is an instant mood booster and one of those prints that makes you feel happy the second you put it on. It’s bright and cheerful, but the shirtdress silhouette keeps everything feeling crisp and sharp, not overly playful.

I always love a structured collar and button front like this because it looks a little more polished, and linen is so comfortable in the heat. It’s so hard to find a sundress with sleeves, which is another good reason to snatch this one up!

Elsey Shift Dress in Conch Shell Pink Leafy Knit Pucker Jacquard

If you love a classic Lilly shift but want something that feels a little more elevated, this is a lovely pick. The textured jacquard fabric gives this dress a little more depth and structure, so it doesn’t look flat or feel overly casual, and the dainty ruffle collar is a feminine touch. The soft pink tone is quite pretty, but this also comes in a whimsical green butterfly print.

Danika Tunic Dress in Raspberry Rouge Animal Magnetism (no longer available in this pattern)

I had to include this one because it’s such a fun example of Lilly’s more playful side. Even though it’s sold out in the Raspberry Rouge pattern, they have it in two other fun patterns: Pistachio Macaron Bees Knees and Capri Blue Rosanna.

The tunic style is loose and easy to wear, making it perfect for hot days or even as a cover-up on vacation. This is exactly the kind of piece Lilly does so well. It feels fun, a little boho with those bell sleeves, but still classy.

Your questions about Lilly Pulitzer, answered.

Is Lilly Pulitzer only for vacation and warm weather?

Not at all, and this is something I love to talk about! Yes, Lilly is absolutely perfect for Florida, the Caribbean, or any sunny destination. But they have beautifully expanded their range to include blazers, soft knit tops, lounge sets, and other everyday pieces that work perfectly outside vacation mode.

What sizes does Lilly Pulitzer come in?

Lilly Pulitzer carries sizes 00 through 20 on most styles. Not every style is available in all sizes, so I recommend filtering by your size on their website. Their swimwear collection, in particular, has some really thoughtful options for different body types, including underwire support and tummy coverage.

What is the Lilly Pulitzer Sunshine Sale?

The Sunshine Sale is Lilly Pulitzer’s legendary clearance event, and something I always look forward to. Twice a year, typically in spring and fall, Lilly releases a huge selection of past season styles at dramatically reduced prices. I’m talking discounts of up to 70% off.

Here is what you need to know going in. All Sunshine Sale purchases are final, no returns or exchanges, which is exactly why knowing your sizing is so important. Pieces also sell out incredibly fast, sometimes within minutes of the sale opening, and Club Lilly members, plus email subscribers, get early access.

My verdict: Is Lilly Pulitzer worth it for women over 50?

It is not for every woman or every style personality, and that is completely okay. But if you love color and want clothes that make you feel cheery when you put them on, then I think you are going to love this brand.

What is your favorite Lilly Pulitzer piece? Are you a fan of the classic shifts or the new maxi styles?
