Ruched Tops

The easiest way to jump into the ruching trend is to add one or two cute ruched tops to your wardrobe. But if you are not quite sure exactly what ruching is, think of it this way. Ruching is simply fabric gathered in a repeat pattern at a certain point in a garment to create some visual interest.

Let’s take this dark floral ruched top, for example. Subtle bunching below the bust creates a gentle empire waistline that is feminine and figure flattering.  Worn with cream jeans and a pair of dark booties to show off the print, this vibrant ruched top is a fresh fall look.

Now, I mentioned ruching is figure flattering, and you’re probably wondering how that could be?   Folds and gathering work wonders to create the illusion of curves where they are none. So, if you have a boyish rectangular body, then ruching will make you look rounder and shapelier. See how this artsy black top with its ribcage ruching creates a more curvy waistline?

Ruched Dresses

It may seem counterintuitive, but ruching can also make you look slimmer. That is why ruched dresses are so popular. For example, see how the soft folds on this stunning navy ruched gown are designed to hug your curves and draw the eye inward to a single narrow point. A dress like this can make you look ten pounds thinner. No wonder ruched dresses are so popular on the red carpet!

Ruched Jumpsuits

Jumpsuits have been popular for a while now, but they can be hard to wear when you are softer and rounder and may even come across as a bit masculine. Ruched jumpsuits are new and selling fast because the soft folds make them more fluid and feminine looking, almost like a dress or long gown.

This gorgeous blue velvet ruched jumpsuit even has gathering on the sleeves which is a very pretty detail.

Are you ready to try ruching? Maybe you already have. Let me know what you think and what ruching has done for you!

  1. Ruching is a girl’s best friend. Jumpsuits never work for my long torso. I also find them highly annoying because I don’t enjoy getting undressed whenever I need to use the washroom. I can’t imagine a worse design.

    1. Hi Binky,
I hear that a lot about jumpsuits being annoying when you have to use the washroom, and lord knows, at our age, that can be quite often! LOL, Nevertheless, they do look fabulous. I’m looking around for one right now. It’s been years since I wore one!
