What’s In for Fall 2026? 10 Fashion Trends You Need to See

October 31, 2026

Isn’t fall fashion the best? There’s something about the cooler weather, gorgeous colors, and all those cute sweaters and jackets that makes me want to go shopping! I’ve been checking out what’s new for fall 2026, and let me tell you, there are some really fun trends this year.

So, what are the biggest fall fashion trends for women over 50 in 2026? From pretty lace sweaters and chic suede jackets to satin pants and updated preppy styles, I’ve picked the most wearable trends this season, along with easy outfit ideas and tips for making them look fabulous at any age. Let’s take a look!

1. Lace Tops and Sweaters for Fall

When you think of lace, you probably picture a pretty blouse you’d wear to dinner or a special occasion. They’re very much in style. But lace is also taking a much more casual turn this fall, and I’m loving it! One of the prettiest ways I’m seeing it worn is on sweaters, with delicate lace sleeves, lace trim, or a little peek of lace around the neckline.

A lace sweater gives you that cozy fall feeling, but with a little something extra that makes it more interesting than a plain knit. It’s feminine without being too frilly.

Have you noticed all those jackets with the tall collars that stand up around your neck? They’re called funnel-neck jackets, and they’re popping up everywhere this fall. I think they’re such a fun change from the usual blazer or classic collared jacket.

Something about that high neckline makes a jacket look instantly modern. It has a slightly sporty feel, but it’s also quite chic, depending on the fabric and style. I’m seeing funnel necks on everything from casual utility jackets to wool coats, so there’s plenty to choose from.

3. How to Wear Satin Pants for Fall

Satin Wide Leg Pull-On Pants

Satin pants for everyday wear? Yes, really! I know we usually think of satin as something we’d save for a holiday party or a fancy night out, but this fall, silky pants are showing up in some surprisingly casual outfits.

I’m seeing them paired with chunky sweaters, relaxed jackets, and loafers. If you’re going to try satin pants, I’d look for a relaxed straight-leg or wide-leg style in a rich fall color like chocolate brown, burgundy, or black. The fabric makes a big difference, too. You want something with a little weight that drapes over your curves rather than clinging to every little lump and bump.

4. Argyle Sweaters Are Back

Well, look what’s back! Those preppy diamond-patterned argyle sweaters we wore years ago are making a comeback. The new argyle sweaters are a little different from the ones we remember. I’m seeing shorter lengths, relaxed fits, and some really pretty color combinations that make them feel fresh and modern. They’re still preppy, but not in that stuffy country club kind of way.

I love the idea of wearing an argyle sweater with dark-wash jeans and loafers for a casual fall day. You could also wear one with tailored pants and a cute pair of flats.

5. Capes and Ponchos Are Making a Comeback

Here’s a trend that makes me want to book a fall weekend getaway somewhere with colorful leaves and chilly mornings! Capes and ponchos are back, and there’s something so cozy and glamorous about wrapping yourself up in one.

I think a gorgeous cape can make even the simplest outfit look special. The one thing I’d be careful about is choosing a cape or poncho that’s too big and bulky. Some of them can completely swallow you up, which isn’t very flattering. Look for one that drapes nicely and doesn’t add a ton of extra volume. I also like keeping the pants a little slimmer when wearing something loose on top. It helps balance everything out so you look chic instead of like you’re wrapped in a blanket!

6. Equestrian Fashion: Barn Jackets and Horsebit

If you love classic fall clothes, you’ll be happy about this trend! Equestrian style is having a big moment, and no, you don’t need to own a horse to wear it.

Think barn jackets, riding boots, horsebit loafers, quilted coats, and those gorgeous earthy colors like olive green, camel, and chocolate brown. It’s that classic English countryside look that always feels right for fall.

One of my favorite pieces from this trend is the barn jacket. It’s casual, practical, and looks so cute with jeans and a sweater. I also love horsebit loafers because that little gold detail gives them a more dressed-up look than a plain loafer.

7. Leopard Print and Animal Prints for Fall 2026

Leopard print lovers, I’ve got good news! This fabulous animal print is still going strong for fall 2026, and I’m not surprised at all. Leopard has been around forever, but every few years, it seems to come roaring back into the spotlight.

I think a leopard print sweater is one of the easiest ways to add a little fun to a fall outfit. Wear it with black pants and gold jewelry for dinner, or tuck it into your favorite jeans and add cute flats or ankle boots for a more casual look. I also love leopard with chocolate brown, camel, and cream. Those colors really bring out the richness of the print.

8. Suede Jackets, Bags, and Boots

Oh, how I love suede in the fall! Something about that soft, velvety texture and those rich autumn colors makes everything look so luxurious. This year, suede is a major fashion trend, and it’s showing up on jackets, skirts, handbags, boots, and just about everything else.

A suede jacket is one of those pieces that can make an ordinary outfit look fabulous. A suede handbag is another great way to get in on the trend, and you can carry it with so many different outfits.

Now, I know real suede can be expensive, and let’s face it, it’s not always the easiest thing to keep clean. Luckily, there are some very nice faux suede pieces out there that give you the same look without the high price tag.

9. Peplum Tops, Sweaters, and Jackets Are Back

Remember peplum? Those cute tops and jackets that nip in at the waist and flare out at the bottom? They’re back. The new peplum styles are a little softer and more relaxed than the stiff versions we wore years ago. A peplum sweater is an easy way to try the trend for fall, and a peplum jacket can give jeans and a simple top a more dressed-up look.

Pay attention to where the peplum starts, too. A style that nips in at your natural waist and flares gently below it is usually more flattering than one that adds volume right at the widest part of your hips.

10. Plaid Blazers, Coats, and Skirts for Fall

Magnificent Plaid Blazer

Plaid for fall isn’t exactly groundbreaking, but wait until you see how it’s being worn this year! Fall 2026 is all about sophisticated plaid blazers, gorgeous checked coats, and pretty plaid dresses that look anything but ordinary.

I’m loving the richer colors and more feminine styles. A plaid blazer with jeans and loafers is such a cute outfit for lunch or shopping, while a plaid coat can make even a plain sweater and pants look fabulous. If you’re feeling a little adventurous, try a plaid skirt with tall boots and a fitted sweater.

One little tip: Pay attention to the size of the plaid. A smaller, subtle check can be easier to wear if you’re petite, while a larger plaid makes a bigger statement.
