Can You Wear a Shorts & Jacket Set Over 50?
If you’ve given up wearing shorts because you think they look too junior or casual to be classy, check out the outfit I’ve been wearing lately. This cute shorts and jacket set is a modern, sophisticated way to wear shorts at 40,50,60+
Who knew shorts could look so relaxed and elegant at the same time? I love this new trend of pairing a proper jacket with tailored shorts. For example, a while back, I styled a classic pair of black Bermuda shorts with a bright orange linen blazer, and the results were fabulous. I loved the look, and it was a big hit with all of you, too!
Today, I’m trying a more suited look with a matching blazer and suit set made of a blue jacket (similar) and blue shorts.
This chic shorts set is from Karen Kane. It has a light, unlined one-button jacket with a very California feel.
The jacket is light and unlined, and the elbow-length sleeves are ruched, so you don’t have to keep pushing them up to get that sporty scrunched-up effect! I love those big patch pockets, too!
This smart-looking shorts and jacket set is made of linen, so it’s not stiff or formal, even though it looks tailored. Yes, it does wrinkle, but that’s what makes it charming: it gives it that laid-back vibe that is so fresh and modern.

I like the length of the breezy shorts. They hit at mid-thigh, so they are not too short but not too long. I know this length will appeal to some and not others, but overall, it is a perky, classy length. I have long legs for you to refer to.
The shorts are also high-waisted, which I find quite flattering since they make them look more formal like trousers. They’re also very comfy because they have an elasticized waistband!
The slanted pockets give them that classic suit feel. It would be best if you had a light and casual top to keep the look relaxed but chic. The bright white tank top is so fresh.

I chose this set because of its beautiful blue print, but similar sets are available in Oatmeal, Bright Blue, and Bright Pink.
My inspiration for accessories for my shorts and jacket set came from the gorgeous cherry blossoms here at Spencer Smith Park in Burlington. I added a pale pink bag and these nude mules. I love how the pink bag contrasts with the navy and softens the masculine suit.
My gorgeous jewelry from Dean Davidson also add a touch of class!
And that’s my cute shorts and jacket set for summer! To shop this outfit, click the links in this post or visit Karen Kane for this and other fabulous summer finds!
