Fall always feels like a fresh start. The kids are back to school, everyone’s back to work, and things are buzzing again. And then there’s all that fabulous new fall fashion!

But where do you start? Here’s a look at some of my favorite early fall finds from Talbots, along with a few of the latest trends to get you excited about the season ahead.

1. Paisley Cashmere sweater with Brown pants

There’s nothing I love more about fall dressing than slipping into a light, luxurious cashmere sweater, but I must admit I’ve been getting a little bored with so many solid-color ones. This pretty paisley one is such a great change.

It has all the fall colors so that I can mix and match it with everything, and the print feels lively without being loud. I love the way it looks with these chocolate brown pants. It’s such a simple combo but looks so classy and feels so cozy.

2. Corduroy Dress with Boots

Do you recognize this dress? I wore it last year in this same spot with very similar boots. But the dress was rust, and the boots were dark brown. Well, obviously it was a big seller because Talbots brought it back in this beautiful burgundy shade with cognac suede boots. I’m going to share a secret here.

This is last year’s photo. I just AI- ed the color of the dress and the color/style of the boots – that’s how identical these pieces are! Crazy right? I just wanted to be transparent.

3. Eyelet Lace Shirt  with Ponte Pants

White eyelet is nice in summer, but honestly, I prefer cream in fall and winter. It’s less stark and works better with all the warm fall colors, especially this year with so much brown and caramel. This pretty cream-colored eyelet shirt is such a romantic head-turner.  I’ve paired it with these brown stretchy ponte pants again, and I want to tell you a bit about them.

They feel a touch heavy/thick, whatever you want to call it on the hanger, but they are light and heavenly when you slip them on – so comfy!! They fall beautifully, straight, but not stiff, and I think they really are a great find if you are looking for a classy, feel-good dress pants that won’t wrinkle.

4. Cashmere Sweater with Knit Denim

Speaking of comfy pants, here is another pair. These are Talbots knit jeans,s which means they are softer all over and more comfortable around the waist and hips than regular denim.

With everyone craving more and more comfort, these are going to be a big hit. The cute patch pockets are a playful detail too. I’ve paired them with this cashmere sweater, and you can always throw on a jacket.

5. Knit Blazer with Jeans

Here’s a jacket you can throw on over this outfit. This is a knit blazer, or sweater blazer, as they call it, and it’s all the rage this fall. It’s structured like a double-breasted blazer but soft like a cardigan – best of both worlds and perfect for your midlife lifestylet that’s more relaxed and comfort-minded.

6. Faux Suede Jacket with Striped Shirt

Suede is trending, and you might think this jacket is suede, but it’s actually faux suede. Pretty good, right? I find it softer and more relaxed than real suede, so it’s more practical and comfy for me.

You can wear this with a dres, or dress pants, as a complete suit- yes, they have suede pants- or, my favorite, with jeans. It adds nice texture and a bit of authority to a casual denim look. Plus, the cognac color and dark wash denim are a very modern, very popular combo.

7. Striped Shirt with Jeans

The one thing I like about Talbots is that everything mixes and matches. For example,e this striped cognac shirt is fabulous with the jacket and jeans. You have probably noticed my loafers by now – also in cognac.

I do love coordinated looks, and it’s modern as long as your individual pieces feel fresh, simple, and up to date.

8. Burgundy Lace Dress

Oh my! This elegant lace dress has been so popular that by the time I received my order, it was almost sold out. I’ve been checking every day and see some sizes coming back. I hope they restock it. Burgundy Suede Bag

Wow! Such a cute bag. This stunning suede, leather-trimmed over-the-shoulder bag looks fabulous with this dress, and I can’t wait to wear it with jeans and a cozy sweater. It’s so versatile, the perfect size, and a handy crossbody. The deep, rich Bordeaux color is so powerful it’s making me crave a lovely glass of red wine!

9. Striped Short Sleeve Sweatshirt

Remember how I mentioned that Talbots often brings back best sellers in a slightly different form the next year. Such is the case with this darling little top, but this year it’s even better! You can’t go wrong with this top, and because it is not big and bulky, it’s a great choice to wear with wide-leg jeans, as well as straight-leg ones like this.
