This spring, everything is coming up in shades of purple, thanks in part to Pantone’s pick for the 2018 color of the year, Ultra Violet. Color experts describe Ultra Violet as a blue-based purple that is “complex and contemplative and suggests the intrigue of what lies ahead.”
While that remains to be seen, I do know that adding a little (or a lot of) mysterious Ultra Violet, as well as other shades of purple like Spring Crocus and Pink Lavender to your wardrobe is an easy way to update your look. Here are four ideas to help you incorporate these breathtaking shades into your wardrobe this spring.
Pretty Off the Shoulder Lilac Sweater for Weekends
I think this lilac shade is just so pretty. When worn with a pair of blue denim jeans and neutral accessories, the overall look is soft, feminine and youthful. I’ve chosen an off-the-shoulder top that is as comfy and cozy as it is pretty. In addition to jeans, you can wear it with casual black pants or even a casual knit pencil skirt for a funky date-night outfit.
Last but not least, I just want to mention this bag. If you haven’t updated your everyday bag for a while, or you tend to carry the same old black one year in, year out, this beige hobo-style bag is worth having a look at.
Violet Side Tie Blouse is Work Ready
This second look is a great work look for the gal who works in a semi-casual office. Just take your trust little black pants and add an updated of-the-moment violet top. I really like the way the side ties give you a little figure-flattering shape. Add a pretty-in-purple necklace like this one. Not only does it look great with this top, but it’s also an easy way to update what you already have in your wardrobe. Can’t you just see this with your basic white blouse?
Lavender Stripe Blouse Dresses up Jeans
Dress up a simple pair of black (or blue) jeans with small hits of lavender. For example, lavender and spruce green stripes is a beautiful and very modern mix. With a peplum waist, boatneck and cap sleeves, this is a fantastic top for a pear-shaped gal who wants to balance out her hips.
Adding a shoe in the color of the moment is another great option. These pumps are so pretty and will dress up anything from jeans to a dress to a pencil skirt. You’ll wear them all summer long.
Last but not least, add lavender via your jewelry. A delicate watch is lavender is fresh, feminine and unexpected.
Pink Lavender Sneakers Add a Feminine Twist
Accessories are a great way for an over-40 gal to update her look with a trend. It’s a subtle way to show you’re hip and up-to-date. I’ve kept it simple here with a striped scarf that’s just perfect for spring and summer. A scarf with lavender or violet is an easy and economical way to update your look.
Or consider adding a pair of shoes in the color of the season like these slip-on sneakers. Slip-on sneakers have been big for a while, and they’re still going strong. It’s no wonder – they’re cute, comfy and practical. You can wear both of these with a pair of skinny jeans and a long or short sleeve top. Aren’t the bows on the back of this one cute?
How do you feel about Pantone’s pick for 2018 Color of the Year and all the pretty purples this spring? Is this a color you plan on adding to your wardrobe?
