What To Wear To A Country Music Concert: Handy Style Guide
Hi Deborah,
My husband surprised me with tickets to a country music concert. I’m excited but still trying to decide what to wear. Jeans come to mind, but that’s about it. Do you have any suggestions for cute country concert outfits? Thanks, Dana
Hi Dana,
A country concert is a lot of fun; part of that fun is dressing up. Jeans or a casual dress are the most popular outfits. It’s often tricky to find the line between looking country-cute and over-the-top in Western wear that makes you look like you just stepped off your horse.
Like anything, balance is key. Here are some country concert outfit ideas to choose from.

1. Denim is the Natural Choice
If you’re fixin to go to a country music concert, you’ll never go wrong wearing jeans. Bootcut and flare jeans are classic Western styles, but you can also wear straight-leg, skinny, or cropped jeans.
The lighter color, more distressed the jeans, the more casual your look.
2. Wear a Sweet Top
Western style is fun and flirty, so pair your jeans with a sweet, feminine top. Look for button-up shirts and floral tops with ruffles, puff sleeves, lace, smocking, yokes, and braided trim. Pretty styles like off-the-shoulder, cold shoulder and relaxed front tie blouses are also popular. A soft, relaxed concert tee also works.
Tops with fringe, ruffles, or wide, flowy sleeves will also give you that country western look and feel.
3. Plaid or Gingham is a Classic Country
For a more cowgirl look, wear a plaid or gingham shirt. Roll up the sleeves, wear a cute camisole underneath, and keep your collar open to show off a pretty antique necklace.
A cotton plaid shirt is traditional and down-home, but if you want to create a more refined country music concert outfit, try a silky gingham blouse instead.

4. Wear a Floral Dress with a Western Vibe
Casual dresses make great country concert outfits, so long as you stay away from anything too slinky, cocktail-like or tailored and business-like dress.
Instead, go for something more casual, girly, and feminine, such as a flowy, tiered boho style dress. Dresses with tiny floral prairie prints are also country cute.
5. Fringe is Flirty
Fringe is a big part of the cowboy spirit. A top or sweater with fringe or a fringe accessory, like a fringe bag or booties, can also set the mood.
5. Lace and Eyelet is Country
Lace and eyelet are pretty, feminine, and perfect for jeans when you want to look cowgirl chic.
6. A Casual Maxi Works
A maxi dress is another great country music concert outfit. The prairie-inspired maxi dress with the smocked top and eyelet hem is sweet and earthy. A flowy maxi with ruffles or tiers would also be perfect.
You can always add a denim, leather, or suede jacket for a more styled look.

7. Slip on some Chambray
Chambray (soft-washed denim) is very Texan, so it’s a perfect match for a country music concert. You can wear your chambray dress with bare legs and some cute cowboy boots, suede booties, or earthy sandals. You can also pair it with black leggings.
6. Cowboy Boots are Classic
Classic cowboy boots are an obvious choice when styling a country concert outfit. For a modern take, try western-inspired ankle booties.

9. Western or Native American Accessories
A slouchy suede saddlebag, a raffia cowboy hat, or western statement jewelry can tie your look together.
Dangly jewelry, earth-toned jewelry, jewelry with feathers, beading, hoops, and turquoise also say home on the range.
Other great choices – rustic silver jewelry, hammered jewelry, native American jewelry, leather belts, and big metal belt buckles.
10. Big Hair and Pretty Makeup
The country music look is just as much about hair and makeup as it is about clothes. Keep your hair big, loose, and wavy like you’ve been out working on the farm—no stiff city girl coif. Your makeup should be pretty and natural, or you will lose the look.
