What’s a Space Dye Sweater (and Why You Need One)
Even if you have a drawer full of knits, you miss out if you don’t own a Space Dye Sweater. This year, they’re more popular than ever, and here are a few reasons.
1. Space Dye Sweaters are Colorful
I always say that color is energy, and energy is life. In midlife, we certainly want to look alive, don’t we? (LOL!) Space-dyed sweaters, like my pretty blue one, are colorful because of the unique way the yarn is created.
Each strand is dyed in multiple colors to create abstract color patterns, which may or may not repeat throughout the length of the yarn. Maybe you’ve heard of dip dye? Well, it’s the same thing.
Space-dyed yarn can be dyed in coordinating or contrasting shades. My sweater is in pretty shades of blue, giving a subtle yet sophisticated look. Contrasting colors would give this sweater a more funky look. (Does my white coat look familiar? I wore it last week with that pretty pink sweater I showed you.)
2. Space Dye Sweaters Add Texture to your Wardrobe
Any great wardrobe needs texture and space-dye sweaters provide that. Most are made with marled (twisted) yarn, so they are chunky knit sweaters in many colors, which tends to emphasize the texture even more.
3. Space Dye Sweaters are Sporty
You tend to see a lot of space-dye sweaters and tops in Athleisurewear. With a dressier sweater like this, you still get that cool, sporty, camouflage-print look and feel.
I love how this sweater has been knit in different directions, creating a figure-flattering V-shape down the front.
4. They’re Comfy
This space-dyed sweater is nearly 60% cotton, so it’s soft, comfy, and a nice weight for spring.
5. This Cropped Style is Right on Trend
Cropped space-dye sweaters have been trending. This one sits perfectly at my waist and looks excellent when paired with long, dark bootcut jeans.
I love this stunning blue color with my new pink Kate Spade bag.
What a cute look, and now this fabulous Banana Republic sweater is 40% off. You can pick one up before they sell out. It comes in petite sizes, too. Just click the links in the shop to look at the above.
Lovely outfit! Your sunglasses are so stylish. Would you mind sharing the brand?
Hi Meredith,
They are from Vince Camuto, but they are a few years old. Here are some that are close:https://amzn.to/2ZgnSG5,https://amzn.to/2X5dDRU. Maybe one of those will work for you. Cheers, Deborah
