Cheery Striped Fall Sweater and Colored Jeans

There’s no better way to start the day than with a nice cup of tea and a cute new outfit. Today, I’m bringing you an easy fall outfit I just picked up that brightens my day.

Black, gray, white—the stores are loaded with these colors, and I find them kind of boring. So recently, I was on the lookout for something with some color when I ran across this.

This outfit is a breath of fresh air in a sea of solid, dark colors. The unique blend of mustard, burgundy, pink, and gray (with a hint of brown) is not only modern but also invigorating. Wearing these vibrant colors instantly lifts my mood, showcasing the powerful impact of color on our emotions.

Take a closer look at the cozy, classy knit of this sweater. The pretty ombré paint stripe effect is a delightful detail. This sweater is incredibly soft and comfortable and is made from a blend of wool and cashmere, ensuring pleasant daily wear.

Do you like the shape? It’s a little boxy, and those drop sleeves make it look very relaxed and chic. I’ve rolled the sleeves a bit to give it a sporty feel.

To make the sweater pop, I repeat the color of one of the stripes by carrying a burgundy tote. This one is from Michael Kors. It’s called the Jet Set Tote, and you can fit so much stuff into it that it is great for traveling.

While you could pair this sweater with regular blue jeans for a casual look, I opted for a more elegant vibe with a pair of rich burgundy jeans. Colored jeans are a fun and stylish way to spice up your fall wardrobe, making this outfit suitable for various occasions.

  1. Hi! Love your site! Very concerned about wearing horizontal
stripes due to weight issues. Anything in
vertical lines that you would recommend instead?

  2. H Deborah,
The sweater and pants are a fabulous fall look. I’m headed to Charleston, SC, next week. The weather will be mid-70-80s. Dare I wear white crop pants with a navy Lily Pulitzer shirt.?

  3. Hi everyone, I am from Nassau, Bahamas, and we don’t have winter weather here. Our weather for today was a high of 93 F and a low of 79 F. I am headed to New York City from November 18th to November 27th to spend time with family for Thanksgiving for the first time. I need some help with what I should wear. I want to protect myself from the cold, but I don’t want it to be so noticeable that I am from a warmer climate. Any suggestions?

    1. Hi Denise, Lucky you that you live in Nassau!
You know our weather is so crazy these days that it’s hard to know what the weather will be like in November, but usually, during the day, it is the high 40s- very high 50s, half the month sunny and half the month overcast. Here is an excellent article about the weather and what to wear:https://tinyurl.com/ybw5sfjy

When I travel, I always dress in layers. That way, you can peel off a layer if it warms up or pull one on if it gets nippy. This could consist of jeans, a t-shirt, layered with a sweater or thin cardigan, and a light jacket. A warm sweater with a shawl would be another good idea. Another suggestion is to wear a warm sweater with a coat and a scarf. The great thing about a scarf is that you can wear it alone with the shirt, add it under the jacket, or keep it in your bag if you don’t need it. The most important thing is a good pair of walking shoes or booties. They are essential for NYC. Be sure you wear them before you get on the plane. Here’s an article we did last year about fall in NYC that illustrates these points:https://www.fabulousafter40.com/comfy-fall-shoes-to-wear-in-nyc/ I hope I have given you some food for thought. Have a wonderful time, and enjoy your trip!

  4. I love a good striped top! I’ve also found that lately, I’ve appreciated other colors beyond my navy and white. Thanks for the inspo! What a great way to take stripes into Fall.

    1. Thanks, April, for stopping by. The colors of these stripes spoke to me. Do you know that unusual combinations of colors produce a creative vibe? And I think that is what you get from this sweater. Plus, it’s a great piece to take you from fall into winter or winter to spring because of the stripes’ light base and happy feel. Love it! Cheers, Deborah

  5. Nice sweater, and I do like the color combination. I think the bag is lost against the burgundy jeans. It blends in. Maybe with grey jeans, the bag WOULD pop and bring out the burgundy stripe in the sweater. I like Kathleen’s suggestion of grey booties too! The jeans are excellent; I might have to look at them.

  6. I love the look and already own similar burgundy pants. My booties look the same, also. I will shop for a similar-looking sweater at a more affordable price. This is what I do. Get ideas from your website but find them cheaper somewhere else.

  7. The outfit is nice, but I would have done a grey boot with it instead of the black. The black stands out too much and draws the eye away from the outfit to the shoes. But that’s just my opinion! Otherwise, it’s a perfect outfit for a movie night!! ❤️

    1. Hi Kathleen, So funny you mention that. I had bought grey suede booties the night before, but on the Sunday morning of this shoot, I opened the box, and the salesperson had put two right booties in different sizes!! So I had to go with what I had, which worked. But agree my grey bootie would have been fresh. Cheers, Deb
