One thing I’ve always been a little fussy about is my skin. I was lucky enough to inherit good skin from my mom, and thankfully, she encouraged me from a very early age to always take good care of it.
I’ve never gone to bed with my makeup on. Ever. And I honestly can’t remember a night when I didn’t moisturize before bed. Looking after my skin has become part of who I am.
Over the years, I’ve experimented with everything from drugstore brands to luxury skincare. Some products are nice, some are definitely overhyped, and every once in a while, I come across a line that genuinely impresses me. Colleen Rothschild is one of those brands.
What I really love about Colleen Rothschild is that the products feel super luxurious, but they also work. I love the combination of the best skincare ingredients and beautiful botanicals, and every time I use them, it feels like I’m treating myself to a little spa experience.
I’ve used many of her products over the years, and these are the ones I think are especially worth trying.
Radiant Cleansing Balm
If you’ve followed Fabulous After 40 for any length of time, you probably knew this one would be first.
The Radiant Cleansing Balm is truly divine.
The creamy texture is unlike anything else I’ve tried. You know how melted butter disappears into hot popcorn? That’s exactly what this balm reminds me of. It starts thick and buttery, but as you massage it onto your face in gentle circular motions, it softens and melts into your skin, effortlessly dissolving makeup—even stubborn eye makeup—without leaving your face feeling dry or tight.
Then comes my favorite part.
I run the muslin cloth that comes with the balm under hot water, wring it out, drape it over my face for a few seconds, and gently wipe everything away. It feels like a mini facial at the end of the day. My skin is left velvety smooth, soft, and beautifully hydrated.
I’m completely hooked on this luxurious little bedtime ritual.
Then there’s the scent.
I know this sounds a little funny, but I actually look forward to washing my face because I love the smell. It’s fresh and botanical, and it reminds me of being at a spa. Some evenings, I catch myself taking an extra deep breath while I’m massaging it into my skin. It’s that lovely.
If you’re trying Colleen Rothschild for the first time, the Radiant cleansing Balm is where I’d begin.

Matcha Tea Treatment Toner
I used to think toner was something you stopped using after your twenties. As my skin became drier with menopause, I assumed toner would only dry it out even more.
Not this one. The Matcha Tea Treatment Toner feels light, fresh, and gentle. I like using it after I’ve worn heavier makeup or whenever my skin needs a little extra refresh. It leaves my skin feeling clean and balanced without that tight feeling some toners leave behind.
Retinol Supreme Night Oil
If you’ve ever tried retinol and found it too harsh, I bet you’ll change your mind after using this next favorite.
Because it’s blended with nourishing botanical oils, the Retinol Supreme Night Oil is much gentler than many traditional retinol products. I use it three or four nights a week, and, like all Colleen Rothchild products, it has the most heavenly aroma.

Face Oil No. 9 + Extreme Recovery Cream
The combination of these two luxurious products is my little nighttime beauty cocktail.
Whenever my skin feels dry or tired, I mix a few drops of Face Oil No. 9 with the Extreme Recovery Cream in the palm of my hand before applying it. It’s like you’re making a cocktail or, in this case, with the oil and cream, a salad dressing (lol!).
Then I massage it into my face, and I’m all set for my skin to drink it in while I sleep.
The recovery cream is rich enough to use on its own, but if your skin is really dehydrated like mine, this combo is the ultimate.
Retinol Supreme Eye Serum
Dark circles have always been one of my biggest beauty frustrations. I’ve tried countless eye creams over the years, but this is one of the few that actually makes me feel like they’re making a difference.
I pat this Retinol Supreme Eye Serum under my eyes several nights a week, and by morning, my under-eye area looks brighter and smoother.

Quench & Shine Restorative Hair Mask
I know this isn’t skincare, but I couldn’t leave it out.
As I’ve gotten older, my hair has become drier and, surprisingly, a little frizzy. I use the Quench and Shine Restorative Hair Mask about once a week, and it makes such a difference.
It’s deeply moisturizing without weighing my hair down, and it leaves it soft, very shiny, and much easier to style.
Why I Keep Coming Back to Colleen Rothschild
The bottom line is I have met Colleen a few times, and I trust her. She spent years helping major beauty companies develop and formulate skincare, and it shows. She’s taken that scientific expertise and created a fabulous line that combines high-performance ingredients with beautiful botanicals, so the products don’t just feel luxurious—they deliver results.
That’s what keeps me coming back. Every product feels thoughtfully formulated, a pleasure to use, and a little indulgent. Skincare is something I do every single day, so I want products that work and make the experience feel special. When a product can do both, that’s a winner in my book.
If you’re new to Colleen Rothschild, I’d start with the Radiant Cleansing Balm. It’s still my favorite product in the line, and I have a feeling once you try it, you’ll understand why.
P.S.

New for Me, and Loving It!
I also want to mention a Colleen Rothschild product that is new to me since I originally wrote this post, and that I love. I’m talking about the Glycolic Acid Peel Pads with Blue Agave.
I think the key to glowing skin at our age is keeping old, dead, crepey skin off our faces and letting the brightness trapped underneath shine through. These exfoliation pads intrigued me because they contain glycolic and lactic acids. Plus, they looked fun to use.
And they are! After I cleanse my face, I swipe a textured, acid-soaked pad across my cheeks, forehead, nose, and chin, and Voilà! There’s always a little something on the pad, left over from my wash, and that’s so satisfying! I use the Glycolic Acid Peel Pads about 3 times a week to brighten my skin.
There’s nothing like that feeling of having unclogged, super-clean pores. The Glycolic pads also help with hyperpigmentation, which seems to pop up if I get a little lazy with my sunscreen. (Did I mention Colleen makes fantastic broad-spectrum sunscreen?)
