How to Style a Tie Front Blouse

A silky blouse is a gorgeous way to uplevel a pair of jeans, but why not try something different instead of a basic button-up? Tie-front blouses are trending; they’re an easy way to update your look and flatter your figure. Here’s how I styled this chic tie-front blouse for Fall.

Every outfit needs a hero piece to draw the eye in and pull an outfit together, so I started with this gorgeous animal print tie-front blouse from Karen Kane. It’s that perfect combination of elegant yet relaxed, often challenging to find. I like to be casual but look classy, and this nails it. This blouse is soft and silky with a beautiful drape, and I love the feminine puffy sleeves and chic v-neckline! The leopard print gives it a subtle, sexy note.

The front tie detail is a slight twist to how you might usually wear a blouse (tucked in or out), but it makes a big difference. It gives the feeling of effortless style like you just threw this top on and decided to knot it at the front at the last moment. The relaxed vibe comes through and makes you look modern. A crossbody bag adds to the casual, on-the-go feel.

This has to be one of my favorite necklines. V-necks elongate your neck and make you look long and lean. This one is brilliant because it has a small collar, which adds extra oomph and frames your face.

A front tie blouse is a perfect top to wear with higher-waisted jeans that are so popular. These are the classic mid-waist straight-leg jeans from Karen Kane. Although they are called midrise, the rise is 11 at the top end of the midrise, so they feel more like a high rise. A higher rise like this is my favorite because the high waist and bit of sculpting stretch keep my tummy nice and flat.

These jeans are really comfy and very black, which I like because sometimes black jeans aren’t as dark and rich looking as these. You could also wear this top with blue or white jeans, but I love black with leopards. I could also see this blouse with skinny jeans for a more casual look, or imagine wide black palazzo pants and this gorgeous top for a holiday party!

The great thing about a tie-front blouse is that it creates shape. When you have a bit of a mommy’s tummy, you might not like wearing your blouse tucked in with a belt, and when you wear a blouse untucked, it can make you look sloppy and heavier than you are. With a front tie blouse, you pull towards the middle and create a waist. This blouse sits perfectly at the top of these high-waisted jeans, and the ties hang down to camouflage any jelly belly you may feel self-conscious about.

Finally, there are the shoes. With my straight-leg jeans, I chose a high, chunky mule which I find comfortable. I like seeing my exposed ankle when I walk. It’s a cool look right now. Flat mules would look great, or you could also wear chunky heeled booties.
