What Is A Winter Concert Like?

A winter concert can mean braving the cold outdoors for hours or just trying to stay warm on the way to the arena for an indoor show.

As most winter concerts are inside, it’s tempting to skip wearing layers and make a run for it. But remember, you may have to walk far from your car, wait in a long line, or even navigate snowy streets, all of which make layering essential.

The Key to a Great Concert Outfit

The key to a great winter concert outfit is to layer in a way so you’re warm, but your outfit doesn’t look bulky or frumpy. Light jackets, scarves, hats, and gloves are good for bundling up. Sweaters, cardigans, and tops in light, breathable materials, like wool, cashmere, and knit blends, work well. Leather and suede will also keep you cozy. Once inside, it’s easy enough to peel off a layer or two as things heat up.

Of course, you’ll need shoes or boots and a bag, too! Find ones that elevate your look but are also practical. For example, boots that are comfortable enough to climb steep stadium stairs or dance in, or a bag with enough room to carry your phone, keys, and credit card, allowing you to go hands-free.

Here are some stylish, comfy, and cozy winter concert outfits that check all the right boxes.

What To Wear to a Concert in Winter – 10 Concert Outfits

1. Leather Jacket and High-Waisted Jeans

A classic, tried-and-true outfit that works for any winter concert starts with a leather jacket or a bomber jacket. Either of these, worn with high-waisted jeans and a warm sweater, is easy to style and will make you look cool.  Opt for colors like black, burgundy, brown, gray, or other rich neutrals.  Leather moto jackets always say rock and roll, but I find a style like this gorgeous, draped green leather jacket is a little more elegant for us 50+ gals. Head-to-toe black underneath adds an edgy touch.

Another way to make a leather jacket a little more glam is to wear it with a good-quality fitted tee and sequin flare pants.  When you want to go all out, this is a fun, head-turning outfit.

2. Puffer Jacket and Faux leather pants

Cozy puffer jackets are the best way to stay warm, but they may not be your first choice since they can make your outfit look bulky and feel frumpy. That’s not the case with this one. This long quilted puffer jacket sits close to your body, nips in at the waist, and gives you a great shape.  It’s great for a concert layered over a chunky sweater and faux leather pants or leggings and booties.

The best part is that it’s super warm but also so light enough that I can take it off and tie it around my waist like a sweater.  In fact, it’s so thin that I can even roll it up into a tiny ball and carry it in a small nylon bag that comes with it!  This handy jacket is perfect for an outdoor concert or indoor concert.

3. Fuzzy Sweater and Leather Pants or Jeans

A cozy, fuzzy eyelash knit sweater tucked into chic, loose boyfriend jeans is a luxe choice for a winter concert. Edgy Leather pants also work with this super feminine sweater to create an outfit that is a perfect balance of sweet and rowdy. Add a silver-studded leather belt, some cool silver jewelry, and low kitten-heel booties, and you are ready to party! I love this casual, classy rock-and-roll look!

4. Sequin Blazer and Wide Leg Pants

If you like a glitter rock look, this long sequin blazer will do the trick. This thin, lightweight, unstructured jacket will light up under the concert lights, creating an edgy sparkle. Wear this glam jacket with a sleek gray mock-neck sweater, turtleneck, jeans, or even black flowy palazzo pants. Crystal mesh flats are easy to walk in and enhance this dressy look. Not into gray? I love this blue sequin duster jacket with jeans. It has the same effect, just a softer look!

5. Embroidered Wool Jacket and Straight Leg Jeans

If you are going to an indoor concert in a milder climate and want to wear something warm and wooly, this is a good option. This embroidered-detail wool blend jacket is modern and relaxed, with a free-spirited, boho vibe. Wear it to the concert, and if it gets warm, you can easily slip it off mid-show. Since it’s cropped, it looks perfect with high-waisted straight-leg jeans. You could wear booties or black suede penny loafers to look chic and feel comfy.

6. Blazer and a Sweater or Tee

A tailored blazer over a casual shirt or sweater is a warm, polished, casual combination. A shot of color adds a playful vibe. For example, this colorful blush pink jacket is fun over a neutral-toned sweater, which makes your outfit high-energy. The longer length also gives this a more creative look. Light wash jeans create a feminine look, while Black-coated flare jeans turn this into a sleek rocker look. If you want to look taller, wear chunky loafers or low-medium stacked-heel ankle boots. Both are on-trend and comfortable.

7. Faux fur Coat and Skinny Jeans

You don’t go to a concert every day (especially with sky-high ticket prices these days!), so if you want to take your concert look to the max, here’s a fabulous idea.  This glam, fluffy faux fur jacket will make you look like you’re the one who should be on stage! Move over Beyonce! This bold burgundy jacket is fun, sexy, and super cozy.  It’s perfect for gals craving some drama. I like it worn with a simple, stretchy black tee and black skinny, straight-leg, or bootcut jeans.  Add black suede booties, and you have a slimming, monochromatic look.

Another Jeans Option

This jacket also looks great with light-wash, wide-leg jeans and chunky Chelsea boots!  Do you prefer something longer that covers your bottom? This faux shearling coat combines rock star style with teddy bear warmth. Wear it with your favorite pair of jeans for a casual, glam look.

8. Chic Wool Coat

If you know there’s a decent coat check available, you may want to go the elegant, cozy route and wear a full-length coat over your concert outfit. This relaxed wool-blend trench coat has timeless appeal and a relaxed concert vibe.  Pair it with a thin, creamy white cashmere sweater, wide-leg jeans, and light suede booties.

Add a Statement Scarf

Then, add a snuggly statement scarf, like this luxurious faux fur pull-through scarf, to keep warm and look chic! For a classy concert-ready ensemble, don’t forget cashmere-lined leather touchscreen gloves, boots, and a structured handbag that you can carry cross-body if need be.

poncho and jeans

9. Poncho and Jeans

Here’s an easy way to keep warm when it’s chilly out that you may not have thought of. An artsy poncho works in lieu of a jacket or coat. Layer a long-sleeved sweater and jeans or these interesting lookalikes (cotton terry pants) with a cowl-neck poncho. Sneakers are always perfect for concerts, or you can wear booties. This look works better in the fall or early spring, when there’s still a chill in the air or if your winter isn’t one big deep freeze.

10. Faux Fur Vest and Faux Leather Jeggings/Leggings

Back to faux fur, this time a vest! This luxe faux fur vest looks rock star-ready with a pair of edgy faux leather leggings or jeggings. If you are the kind of gal who likes combat boots, then pairing them with this fun outfit can look pretty cool. I think one of the reasons this works well is also the sweater. The mix of bright and dark high-contrast colored stripes, including black, gives the outfit a fun, rebellious feel that’s a little bit punk. Matching gloves make it cozy.

Sequin Hoodie

I’ve seen these around and thought they were really cute, but I was really thinking about where to wear one until I wrote this post. Comfy, casual, but ready to party is what this cute Sequin Hoodie says to me. You could easily layer something under this if need be or wear a black blazer over the top, Veronica Beard style. This is cute with leggings (perfect with the tunic length and high low hem), or just pair it with jeans. It comes in black, too, and is a dazzling way to enjoy that exciting World Concert Tour by your favorite singer or band.

Winter concerts can be challenging to dress for, but once you learn which fabrics to wear and how to layer correctly, it becomes fun again! Life is too short not to feel your best, especially when you’re enjoying something as thrilling as a concert!
