What to Wear in Greece: Stylish Vacation Outfits for Women
Greece is one of those dreamy destinations that feels straight out of a postcard. Just thinking about the blue sea, the white buildings, and the tasty Greek food makes me smile. I’ve been there twice, and Dr. D and I are thinking about going again this summer. I can’t get enough of the scenery culture, and it’s a really fun place to dress for, too!
If you’re planning a trip there soon, you might be wondering, “What on earth should I wear?” Here’s everything you need to pack for your Greek adventure, including outfits, shoes, and accessories.

My Packing Tips for Greece
I’ve traveled quite a bit, and I’ve learned that smart packing makes a trip way better. When your outfits make you feel good, you relax and enjoy your vacation more. Here are my top 3 tips for packing and then frequently asked questions about Greece:
- I recommend trying on all of your clothes before you leave and taking pictures of each outfit on your phone! This will help you with deciding what to wear.
- I mention this below, but don’t pack high heels or uncomfortable shoes.
- Avoid dark or heavy clothing. The Greek sun can be especially hot in the summer.
What is the vibe in Greece?
Greek style is relaxed and easygoing, yet very pretty. It’s all about staying cool in hot weather, looking fresh, and being comfortable. You don’t have to pack tons of fancy clothes. Simple outfits made from cool fabrics like linen, cotton, or silk blends are best. These fabrics help your skin breathe, and they don’t make you feel sweaty or uncomfortable.
What colors should you wear in Greece?
White, blue, beige, and pastels are perfect to wear. Light colors reflect sunlight and keep you cooler. Plus, they look beautiful in the Greek sunshine and match everything around you, from the sea to the pretty white buildings. (You’ll look amazing in your photographs if you take along a few of these colors!)
The Ultimate Packing List for Greece
Here are the clothes that you’ll definitely want to bring along:
Flowy Dresses and Skirts
Nothing says “Greek vacation” like dresses and skirts. Midi and maxi dresses are wonderful because they cover your legs from the sun but still feel airy. Plus, it can be very windy, and these are less likely to fly up! If you’re not a dress person, I’d suggest bringing a midi skirt (a skirt that goes to your knees or a bit below).

Airy Tops and Blouses
Pack a bunch of easy-to-wear tops. Loose blouses, sleeveless shirts, or lightweight cotton tees are great. Stick with light colors like white, cream, or soft blue. These colors keep you cool and match anything in your suitcase.

Lightweight Pants and Shorts
Linen pants or wide-leg cotton pants feel fantastic in Greece. They’re comfortable for exploring towns or visiting historical sites. Shorts are okay, too, but pick a length that’s comfortable and not too short. Bermuda shorts or tailored shorts that hit just above your knee work perfectly and look age-appropriate.

Swimwear and Cover-ups
Swimming, going on a boat, or even just relaxing by the pool are all big parts of a Greek vacation, so bring swimsuits that make you feel good. I prefer a one-piece or tankini. You can find some of my favorite swimsuits for women over 40 in this post. I’d recommend packing a nice cover-up like a sarong, kaftan, or beach dress. Cover-ups help you easily transition from the beach to lunch or shopping without needing to change clothes.

Accessories to Pack for Greece
The right accessories make your trip easier and more enjoyable. Here’s what I recommend:
- Wide-brimmed hat: This is a must-have item! The sun is really strong in Greece, and a stylish hat can keep you protected and even complete your look. You’ll be glad you brought one! I’d also recommend getting this hat clip you can attach to your purse in case you don’t want to wear it.
- Sunglasses: Choose a classic style that matches everything. This pair looks good on everyone I’ve seen wearing it!
- Crossbody bag: This style is easy to carry, keeps your belongings safe, and leaves your hands free.
- Lightweight scarf or shawl: One of these will be useful for covering shoulders when visiting churches or for cooler evenings.
What to Wear to Dinner in Greece
Greece is lively at night. You’ll see cafes buzzing, restaurants full of people, and everyone dressed up a little more. You don’t need formal clothes, just something a bit nicer than daytime outfits. Try a lightweight jumpsuit, a pretty dress, or linen pants with a nicer blouse. Add simple jewelry like gold hoops or a necklace, and you’ll be set for dinner by the sea.
Best Shoes to Pack for Greece
Greece is beautiful, but its streets are old and uneven. That means comfortable shoes are important. Flat sandals or shoes with soft soles are perfect for walking. Leather sandals match everything and look nice for dinner, too.
Sneakers are another good choice, especially if you plan to do lots of walking and sightseeing. Pick a pair that’s stylish and comfy, and your feet will thank you at the end of the day.
Leave high heels at home. Greece’s streets are often uneven, and high heels can cause accidents or sore feet. If you want nicer shoes for dinner, wear a dressier sandal like this one that will look pretty in your dresses but will keep you stable and safe when walking.
