What to Wear With Wide Leg Trousers: 3 Easy Outfit Ideas
Hi Ladies! Most of us have transitioned from skinny to wide-leg jeans pretty seamlessly, but how do you feel about wide-leg trousers? Soft, loose, flowy trouser pants are trending, and I, for one, was on the fence about them.
I wondered whether I liked such a baggy look, if they would make me look bottom-heavy, whether they were too dressy for casual everyday wear, and how to style wide-leg trousers. I’m excited to report that I found a pair I absolutely love and can’t wait to share with you.
Check out my new wide-leg trousers and these 3 easy outfit ideas I’ve come up with.

Meet Spanx Carefree Crepe Trousers
My new favorite wide-leg pants are these Spanx Carefree Crepe Trousers. (They’re also at Nordstrom.) I’m a huge Spanx fan; I wear them all the time. I’m so glad they’ve branched out from being just a leggings brand to making so many other comfortable, body-sculpting clothes. The beauty of these pants is that they have a very relaxed, loose look and feel, but they aren’t at all baggy or sloppy. The fit is superb.
Like all things Spanx, they’re soft and stretchy, and they give you a great shape! I was really surprised by how light and super-comfy they were because I was expecting them to feel more like serious dress pants.
Instead, they feel more like flowy leggings. They have a pull-on waist, are fitted across the hips, and then fall straight down with a classy pintuck pleat. They’re long enough to give you that cool look, but you need to be tripping over them.

Outfit Idea # 1 Blouse + Wide Leg Trousers
So the next question is, what do you wear with wide-leg trousers? The key is to wear something more fitted up top since the pants are wide on the bottom. I’m not talking about a body-con top like a bodysuit—although you can. You just need a top that is slim fitting, not wide or baggy, and if you can tuck it in, great. Or, wear a shorter or cropped top rather than a long one.
Remember, Slim and tucked or cropped on top + wide on the bottom gives you the right proportions.
For example, these pants. They are smoke grey, which is gray with a touch of pink, so I’ve paired them with this soft pink and black ruffle-neck blouse and tucked it in. Then, I added a sweater tied around my neck and white sneakers to create a sporty vibe. It looks casual but also classy to me!

What are Crepe Pants?
I mentioned that these Spanx pants are crepe. In case you were wondering, Crepe is a wool, silk, or synthetic fabric (these are polyester) with tiny bumps that create a slightly raised surface like a pancake or crepe. (Interesting, right?)
Crepe is very lightweight and breathable, so very comfy.

Outfit # 2 Mock Neck Sweater + Wide Leg Trousers
Another idea for what to wear with wide-leg trousers is this sleeveless knit top. It’s a relaxed mock-neck turtleneck with a small cap sleeve. It’s short enough to show off the high waist and make your legs look really long, which is helpful when you are wearing wide, billowy pants.
I like this modern combo of taupe and smoke gray. It soft and elegant.
As for what shoes to wear with wide trousers, you’ll notice I have a sneaker theme going on. In the outfit above I’ve tied the look together with these cool snake-print sneakers.
I’m wearing white lace up sneakers with the other two looks. The reason: I like my feet to be comfy, plus sneakers with trousers are a youthful, modern look.

Outfit # 3 Blazer + Wide Leg Trousers
You’ve probably heard me say before that a blazer instantly uplevels any outfit, especially a double-breasted blazer. Double-breasted has that old money look. I’m wearing a fitted white tank under my jacket, so you can wear the jacket open, but here, I’m showing it buttoned up. I’m wearing relaxed trousers, a jacket, and sneakers. I love this casual, posh vibe!
