Winter is the perfect time to experiment with our wardrobes, don’t you think? The chilly weather makes it easy to tweak our chic by playing with earthy tones and relaxed silhouettes, layers, textures, and rich, luxurious fabrics

I’ve shared many ways to style classic looks. Today, I thought we’d get creative and explore bohemian fashion. Boho isn’t just for summer — you can add a touch of boho chic in colder months and still stay warm and stylish.

You’ve probably seen my summer post on how to dress boho, but do you know how to dress boho in the winter?  No worries. I’ve put together a list of 5 Boho Winter Outfit Ideas to nail this look. Make sure to read to the end for a list of my favorite brands that focus on chic boho style, too!

Winter boho style - colors, fabrics

Boho Winter Outfit Ideas For Cozy, Free-Spirited Fashion

What Does Boho Style Look Like In Winter?

Boho outfits in winter have a free-spirited, laid-back vibe but are also cozy to keep you warm. Think of relaxed sweaters, corduroy pants, stylish faux fur vests, and midi dresses in earthy tones like deep brown, rust, and teal.

Boho style embraces airy, lightweight, and flowy fabrics. In winter, heavier materials like satin, suede, shearling, and even quilting are also appropriate.

Stunning Boho Colors

Boho colors are warm, deep, muted, and natural, so they’re perfect for winter. For example:

*Deep Browns and Rusts: Sophisticated yet natural, deeper brown tones perfectly channel the earthy, boho aesthetic. This deep brown shearling jacket and “Chocolate” slouchy tote are chic examples of what I mean.

*Olive Green: Earthy yet luxurious, pieces like these corduroy pants or this velvet turtleneck stand out as examples of a natural, relaxed vibe.

*Deep Floral shades: For boho florals, choose prints that favor earthy, muted, warm tones, like this printed blouse. It’s flowy and romantic and stays within the appropriate palette.

*Neutral Tan: Light tans inspire the soft, laid-back aesthetic we want with boho looks. For good examples, check out this striped cotton sweater and these tall, fringed suede boots.

*Creamy White: Stark whites can look too powerful for boho looks. Opt for something creamier, like this ivory fringe cardigan.

Luxurious Boho Fabrics

Winter boho fashion means embracing layering and flowy styles, as well as mixing cozy boho fabrics in a way that keeps you warm but doesn’t add bulk or make you look frumpy.  Look for fabrics like:

*Velvet: A cold-weather staple, and it works perfectly with boho looks for a little added glam. This top even incorporates plissé for a textured, breathable look.

*Quilting: For a handcrafted, artisanal vibe, quilted pieces are fabulous. They embrace a look that’s more nomadic and carefree.

*Satin: This fabric looks ethereal with boho-inspired outfits. It’s perfect for layering under bulkier pieces for a sleeker, more feminine look. This boho dress is a chic example.

*Suede: It’s also a boho essential, especially in the winter. It not only keeps you warm but also adds a structured, yet soft texture. This rust suede jacket is has a slightly rugged look and is a great layering piece. The reddish-brown tone makes it feel grounded and organic!

*Chunky Knits: Pairing something like a Fair Isle chunky knit sweaterdress with a classic wool coat can create an eclectic Boho look.

*Faux Fur: It’s perfect for boho glam. Some call it Haute Hippie! Just look at this coat to see what I mean!

*Shearling: Shearling is fantastic for warmth and is trending this year. These shearling boots are particularly stunning.

*Leather: Leather is excellent for adding an edge. It helps balance out softer and flouncier fabrics. For added structure, try to keep it to the bottom half, like with these 70s-inspired flare leather pants.

How To Dress Boho In Winter

Whether you’re spending the day running errands or meeting up with the gals for a dinner date, there are plenty of ways to create cozy winter outfits with a touch of bohemian style.  Here’s how to mix and match different fabrics and textures to ensure you stay warm and look WOW!

boho outfit leather pants, faux fur vest

Faux Fur Vest with Wide-Leg Faux Leather Pants

We’re making this faux fur midi vest the star of our boho chic outfit. Just look at how fabulous it is! Since fur vests are naturally bulky, pair it with a lightweight cotton turtleneck sweater or a satin blouse to keep the look light. Complete the outfit with wide-leg leather pants or flares,  a classic black square buckle belt, and pointed-toe ankle boots.

boho outfit duster and wide leg jeans

Duster and Wide-Leg Jeans

Flowy layering is a big part of boho style, so you may want to try styling an outfit with a duster jacket. The winter ones keep you cozy, and they also cover up any wobbly bits you want to hide. (Lol!)

For a laid-back boho look, pair this stunning Desert Horizon duster with a simple long-sleeve top, wide-leg jeans, and heeled ankle booties. As far as accessories go, this suede hobo bag complements the look perfectly.

Tapestry Boho Midi Dress

Flowy fabrics are the essence of boho fashion, and a pretty midi bohemian dress perfectly demonstrates this. It’s long and flowy, and it uses a funky tapestry print for a wild, free-flowing vibe.

A slouchy pair of boots helps emphasize the relaxed vibe. And, of course, you can’t forget your fringe hobo bag or gold drop earrings! This look will really channel your inner gypsy (because I know it’s in there somewhere, just waiting to come out!).

Rust Boho Blouse - Black Flare PantsBoho Chic Shirt and Black Corduroy Flare Jeans

If you can’t go super flowy, go voluminous. This button-down top adds a sophisticated twist to a classic boho look and channels those earthy tones just right. The high-waisted black cords balance out the volume at the hem but hug tighter on your thighs, so the outfit doesn’t feel too hippy or frumpy.

For accessories, add on a laced leather belt, a structured black shoulder bag, and block-heel ankle boots to complete your look.

boho outfit fringe sweater and vintage jeans

Fringe Sweater and Vintage-Washed Wide-Leg Jeans

Boho is all about fringe, fringe, and more fringe. But you don’t want to pair too many fringed pieces together, or else you may look a little disheveled. That’s why wearing a fringe cardigan on its own is a perfect choice that is both fashionable and effortlessly chic.

Pair this cardigan with vintage wide-leg jeans and comfortable, stylish loafers. For an accessory, this leather top-handle bag is a must-have.
