Can You Wear Black and Brown Together?

Black is one of everybody’s favorite neutrals to build outfits around. Brown is a close second. But, the question I’m always getting asked is, Can you wear black and brown together?  Take a look at this casually chic look that proves ts Yes!

If you want to put together a classy fall look, then a pair of black jeans with a sophisticated brown sweater can be a knockout this time of year. Think of the Autumn landscape. Black and brown naturally occur together, which is a sure sign they will look rich and sophisticated combined in an outfit.

There are many ways to make black and brown work together in an outfit. One way is to color block the look as I have done here. I’m wearing chocolate brown on top, black on my bottom half,  and rust-brown colored booties on my feet.

You can wear this outfit as is, but to tie it all together, add an accessory that has both black and brown. My animal print bag is a perfect complement.  Instead of a bag, you could also try a scarf, a jacket, or even a shoe that combines black and brown.

Texture elevates any tone-on-tone look, which is why I chose this ribbed knit sweater.  It’s from Daily Ritual  – a great Amazon house brand I like. The ribbing is a gorgeous detail that gives my outfit life. I’m also a big fan of mock neck sweaters in general because they have more architecture than a regular turtleneck, so they look more modern and artsy. Plus, this one is cropped (but not too short), which works well with my high-waisted straight-leg jeans.

Black and brown clothes combined in a beautiful outfit have always been popular in Europe. It’s nice to see this chic look has caught on here now too.

Another easy way to create a black-brown outfit is to wear a pair of black or brown pants or a skirt with a brown/black print top in a leopard, floral or geometric print.
