Holiday Party Outfits with Velvet Leggings

I like leggings at Christmas and New Year’s because they are a great starting point to create a holiday outfit that’s relaxed, comfy, and party ready.

Velvet leggings are a great way to glam things up and feel festive. Take a look at this easy-to-throw-together black velvet leggings outfit I put together that is sure to dazzle at a holiday party.

Everyone knows Spanx makes great leggings, and I have a closet full of them. One of my favorites are the Spanx black velvet leggings at Christmas. They’re super soft, plush, and fit like a glove holding your tummy in, but without squeezing the life out of you!

All you need with leggings like these are a fun holiday top with sequins or embellishment, and you are all set.

This perky gold sequin top is pretty short but it works with velvet leggings since they are opaque and relatively thick. I’m showing you these leggings so you can get a good look at them, but since the top is short, I prefer to wear it layered with a long black cashmere cardigan.

I think this high-low cardigan gives the outfit a more relaxed, elegant look, rather than a total party girl, let’s boogie look! And that black column of color with the gold down the center is very slimming too.

The other thing that makes this outfit very holiday-like (besides velvet and sequins) is the suede booties with the glam gold heel. I’ve had these for a few years, but a few are still floating around.

This outfit is sophisticated, so it needs a black evening bootie/shoe. The bootie doesn’t have to be high. For example, a low black suede bootie with a delicate heel would be nice, or you could also go with some black embellished loafers, ballet flats, or mules.

Add some gorgeous gold earrings like these, Manhattan chain links which are a favorite of mine, and a sparkly evening clutch, and you are all set to drop by a friend’s house for some holiday cheer or entertainment at home.

Here’s the final look. I think this would also be great for New Year’s Eve. Besides the velvet legging being new, I had everything else in my closet. This was an easy holiday outfit that ended up being very inexpensive. Do you have some holiday pieces from years past that would go well with black velvet leggings?

To shop these velvet leggings and this outfit, check out the links below. One note: Be sure to check Spanx sizing. I’m generally small, which with most brands, is a size 6. A Spanx size 6 is a medium! So I ordered a medium, and they were perfect.

Now, go party and have fun!

  1. Hi Deb – I love this outfit! I tried to find the cardigan in the shopping section but could not locate it. Can you point me in the right direction, please? Everything else is easily accessible. Thanks for putting the different prices, so it’s easier to choose one within my budget!
    With kindness,
