Cheery Yellow Floral Summer Dress

I’ve always loved dresses. They make me feel pretty and professional, so when it came to deciding what to wear to the rewardStyle blogger conference, a feminine summer dress was a natural choice. Today I’m thrilled to be partnering with Nordstrom to bring you the story behind this cheery yellow dress that I was fortunate to find.

Have you ever had an important event to go to and wanted to buy something new, but you left it until the last minute? That’s what happened to me with the rewardStyle conference. I knew a few months ago I’d be attending in April, and I was determined to take my time and find just the right dress.

The rewardStyle conference can be pretty unnerving with all the cute, young bloggers looking like a million bucks, so I wanted a dress I felt confident in and represented my brand.

The only problem was, that I got so busy with March break vacation, Easter, and family functions, that I ran out of time to go shopping. So, two days before rewardStyle, full of dread because I really didn’t think I would find anything, I hustled over to Nordstrom to look for a dress. And wouldn’t you know it, I hit the jackpot!

At Nordstrom, I found not one but six cute dresses that were perfect for me! That’s right. I tried on six dresses and bought six dresses, including this pretty yellow one!  How often does that happen?  The salesgirl and I were practically giddy.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that the selection of dresses at Nordstrom was simply fabulous! I was so impressed with their huge variety of styles and brands at reasonable prices, brands like Vince Camuto, Eliza J, and Adrianna Papell, to name a few.  This cheery floral print dress I’m wearing is from Maggy London.

All of the dresses I bought were under $169, which made me super happy because I usually pay at least double that price for a single dress. (I’ve gotten into a bit of a rut with the same old brands, which happen to be pricey.) No wonder I scooped up this dress and others.

I’m so pleased with these brands because I have a lot of events I’m attending this summer, such as an image consulting conference in a few weeks and my daughter’s grade 8 graduation in June, and these summer dresses are going to work perfectly for me.

Yellow happens to be my favorite color. You don’t usually see it around so much, but this year (trend alert) is everywhere. It’s such a happy color, and it’s so refreshing and youthful.

Another great thing  I love about this dress is the shape.  The darling A-line is great for gals with hips and gives your tummy room to breathe. It’s also flirty.  This dress has sleeves (checkmark – I like that), and it’s a nice length, just above the knee.

And here’s something interesting… The fabric looks and feels like it is quilted, but it’s not at all thick or heavy like quilted fabric can be.

I also love how the fabric-blocked flowers are arranged just so, to create a very slimming line. This dress has such beautiful, ladylike quality. It’s classic with a twist, and it feels very modern.

I suggest pairing a dress like this with a pair of pumps or slingback heels in a nude shade, so the floral print is the main focus. I like a structured bag with this type of dress because it’s more formal and ladylike. A quilted bag with some shiny gold hardware is a nice way to play up the dress’s quilted look.

Here are a few structured bags, quilted and non-quilted, from Nordstrom that would look really lovely.

Wondering what other dresses I wore to the rewardStyle conference? Stay tuned over the next two days as I bring you two more gorgeous dresses from Nordstrom that were part of my big haul!  Here’s a sneak peek at tomorrow’s dress by Vince Camuto. I can’t wait to tell you all about it and the party I wore it to.

  1. Deborah, I think you look lovely. I would not personally wear something so bright, and I prefer on-the-knee dresses, but you prove the point that if you have confidence and feel good in what you are wearing, you can look just fabulous. I think the nude accessories look just right with the dress.

    1. Thanks, Fiona,
I feel good in warm, bright colors and think that comes through. You have to be true to who you are. I think the nude accessories make this dress shine. You don’t want your accessories to compete with all those lovely stripes. Cheers, Deb

  2. Hi Deborah,
Would you make a post telling us what are the best shops -apart from Norstrom- to buy for women in their 40s?
    Great post!

  3. I love dresses so much! I have now ordered a few because the shop where I used to buy my dresses has changed their concept—such a shame. You are wearing an adorable summery feel dress!
