This is a post from a few Year’s back that I always like to repost the first of the year to give my new readers a chance to get to know me. I hope you enjoy it! …….
I’m a private person. I’m not one to talk a lot about myself or what I do. I think that’s my Canadian upbringing, but since many of you have asked to know more about who I am and my background, I thought I would write a little post. So here goes. Ten things you never knew about me.
1. I Was on TV for Over 20 Years
Before Fabulous After 40, I was the Host and Executive Producer of the HGTV series, Backyard Pleasures – a popular outdoor design series that ran five years. Before that, I was a talk show host, news anchor, entertainment reporter, TV fashion expert, you name it, I did it. Back in the ’80s/early 90’s I also was a producer on a national talk show in the same genre as Sally Jesse Raphael and Geraldo, etc. – remember those? My specialty was tracking down fascinating and often wacky people, with the most unusual lives. Vampires, shipwreck survivors, a lesbian who artificially inseminated herself with a turkey baster- It took real detective work as this was all pre-internet. I met all kinds! Today I want to introduce you to lovely blogger friend of mine, Tania Stephens from the popular blog: 50 is Not Old. Be sure to pop over to her blog today and take a look at what Tania is wearing for Valentine’s Day. It is really fab!
I interviewed Tania when she first started blogging a few years ago for my Styleblazers series. Since then this beautiful gal who describes herself as “real, genuine, and never serious” has really taken off! So I have decided to repost that interview here so you can get to know her better and add her to your list of 50+ bloggers to follow. Meet Tania!
The 50+ fashionista from Grundy, Virginia has attracted a strong following who love her colorful outfits and energetic, youthful style.
Tania is open and friendly, a modern Nana, who reminds readers that style at midlife starts with the right mindset. As she says, “Age is an attitude, keep yours young.”
Forget, How Old are You? ……..The question is, HOW BOLD ARE YOU?
I was in NYC last night for the fabulous launch party of Chico’s #HowBoldAreYou Campaign, which is out to prove age is just a number and encourages women to grow bolder, not older. I had my bold moment when I walked the paparazzi-lined red carpet in this . To learn more, see my page: Blog Monetization and Disclosure.”cute pink Chico’s dress. With the cameras flashing wildly and video rolling, I felt like a movie star. WOW!!
The event was held at Joe’s Pub in NYC with a delicious dinner afterward at Indochine, and you won’t believe who was there…….
Yes, that’s Molly Ringwald pictured here with her husband, Panio Gianopoulous. Molly was on hand to celebrate and perform for us. Did you know she is a talented Jazz singer?
The adorable Tracee Ellis Ross shared some heartfelt thoughts about her growing bold journey with us. She said she always had an idea of who she wanted to be when she was young, and she spent a lot of time discovering and exploring “her,” and as she grew older, she has gained the confidence and boldness to become that person. Isn’t that a lovely way to put it?
Next, she introduced the dynamite Chico’s #howboldareyou video that leaves shivers up my spine and makes me so proud to be a part of this campaign. You have to WATCH THIS!
Molly took to the stage, and before diving into a few tunes, she talked about how’s she feels she’s become bolder and more confident with age. She credits her many life experiences and working at things every day for making her a better writer, singer, actress, and mother.
The crowd loved it, including my fab friends! Recognize these gals? This was the second time Chico’s had brought us together in NYC to be involved in their campaign. The first was a few weeks ago when they asked for our feedback and input into the launch.
We were all so impressed with all the research they had done interviewing women about what they wanted, and how interested they were in what we had to say. We came home excited to help them with their mission to redefine society’s perception towards women as they grow older.
I’m excited to be working with these bloggers as ambassadors for Chico’s, a brand that is truly first class!
I also got to meet Brand President Diane Ellis (far left). There’s Tracee, the lovely Shelagh Stoneman – SVP of marketing for Chico’s ( She’s originally from my hometown of Burlington, Ontario), and finally Lesley Jane Seymour- former editor of More Magazine, who emceed the event.
Does this fellow look familiar? That’s Adam Glassman, creative director at O magazine with actress Tracee Ross.
And these two beauties again, who prove it’s all about getting bolder, not older! Do you want to be part of the #howboldareyou campaign? Chico’s is selling #howboldareyou t-shirts (all ages) on their site, and if you snap a selfie, you can post it on Instagram and show the world that ageism is a thing of the past! How to Style a Velvet Turtleneck with Your Favorite Jeans
Hi Ladies! Today I’m styling a cute velvet turtleneck in one of the prettiest colors I’ve seen. I thought this top was a great way to add a regal touch to a casual outfit, so here we go!
Did you know that velvet has long been the fabric of royalty because it naturally gives off a luxurious feel, making every outfit look high-fashion and expensive?
I’ve always loved velvet and noticed that lately, it’d made a big comeback. Over the years, I’ve owned velvet cocktail dresses, coats, and dressy velvet pants, but what seems to be trending these days more casual velvet pieces. There are many velvet mock turtlenecks, velvet tees, and casual velvet tops like the one I’m wearing.
Floral Tunic + Leggings Makes Chic Fall Transition Outfit
This is the time of year when everything is in full bloom, including my wardrobe! Today I’m excited to be partnering with Picadilly Canada to bring you a chic floral tunic to wear with leggings that will help move you into fall.
We’ve had a great summer, but it’s always so darn short that come August I’m looking for clothes that can easily transition into fall. This gorgeous floral tunic and leggings are perfect for that. This is an outfit you can wear now, and right through to Christmas!
I’m a big fan of leggings. They’re so comfy and classy. This pair of pull-on leggings from Picadilly Canada is one of the nicest I’ve found. They’re light, smooth, soft and they have fantastic stretch.
See how great these leggings look paired with this Mesh Sleeve Asymmetrical Hem Top? I think it’s a very elegant look.
Now in case you hadn’t heard, floral prints are huge this fall. They’re the hottest new trend. I love the big, bold blooms on this long top. They’re modern like a painting, but they don’t overpower. And of course, that combination of red and pink flowers against the white is just so fresh!
We all love black, but I’ve spoken many times about how black can sometimes be hard to wear as we age. All black can drag you down, but this outfit….well, it’s a perfect example of how to do black right once you are past ” a certain age.”
All black from head to toe is super slimming, but the floral panels in the middle give your face some much-needed color. That splash of color makes all the difference in the world. These colorful blooms provide you with energy and life, and that’s what you want. You don’t want to look like you are on your way to a funeral!
Now, how beautiful is this? Do you see the sheer feminine sleeves and asymmetrical neckline? Fine mesh sleeves like this are great for gals who want some arm coverage but who also want to stay calm and not look weighed down. And the sheer fabric is slightly alluring too, which is lovely.
This is a great outfit. I’m a fan of the layered look of the tunic too. Also, the diagonal lines and the chiffon overlay.. very modern and slimming.
Here’s a closer look at the asymmetrical layering. That high/low hemline sends an artsy message and makes you look like more of a creative dresser.
This is such an easy look. I’ve got black lace up heels on to dress it up, but this would look darling with black ballet flats too. (I love my flats!)
Nice shape, right? I give this top marks for being an outfit that is loose enough to be comfy and relaxed, but it also has stretch and shape, so it drapes and curves with your body.
Be sure to check out this outfit, and more fab finds at Picadilly Canada. This outfit is selling fast, so don’t delay. If you do buy the outfit, be sure to send me a photo, and I will post it on my Facebook. I’d love to see it on you!

This spring there, we’ve seen many new and exciting new fashion trends all competing for attention. Here’s a look back at last few weeks and a few I posted on Instagram you thought were winners.
This spring, bold-colored stripes have had a major impact on fashion. I bought this darling Vince Camuto striped party dress and wore it to a cocktail event at the Rewardstyle conference in April. I love the fit and flare style and the slightly retro vibe. This dress is so flirty and feminine it makes you want to twirl! On sale now here at 40% off!
Sunny yellow is one of the top hues around at the moment. It also happens to be my favorite color. I bought this gorgeous yellow floral dress because it looked so cheery, and I loved the ladylike A-line cut. Aren’t those floral simply stunning? Buy it here!
I was really on a dressing roll this spring, probably because I had many events to attend. I always wanted to buy a lace dress, and when I saw this one, I knew it was for me. This fiery coral shade is so flattering, and I love the subtle gold lining underneath. The medallion lace cutouts are very rich and classy, and the style of the dress is relaxed, elegant, and comfy. This Lace Sheath is a great dress for any summer wedding you may have coming up. Buy it here!
Another trend this spring has been novelty tees- tees with saying or cute bold images. I fell in love with this bright Kate Spade Peacock Plume tee which sold out quickly. I love you peacocks which symbolize the integrity and beauty we can all achieve when we show our true colors; then you will love all the other cool accessories created around this magical bird. Check them out.
