What to Wear the 4th of July – Cute Outfits with a Nautical Twist
Summer’s star-spangled holiday is just around the corner. If you’re wondering what to wear on the 4th of July, check out these cute outfits I’m sharing from Talbots. They have a nautical twist and a patriotic vibe!
You know it’s finally summer once the 4th of July rolls around, and everybody is in a happy, party mood celebrating Independence Day! It’s the same for my Canadian followers, who celebrate Canada Day a few days earlier on July 1st.
It feels so good to have a nice, long summer weekend to kick back, have a BBQ and glass of wine with friends, eat, swim, travel, and soak in the great weather! It’s always fun to dress on July 4th with a little red, white, and blue (or, in Canada’s case, red and white).
An easy way to do that is by styling a nautical-inspired outfit. Whether you’re boating on the long weekend or not, the nautical look is a timeless summer style that always works. The colors and styles are perfect for the 4th of July. So, let’s get to my first outfit!

Cute July 4th Outfit #1
White jeans are my favorite summer go-to, and I like to wear them cropped to stay cool and highlight my ankles. Cropped jeans are sporty and youthful, letting you go to town with a super cute pair of sandals.
These cropped jeggings are from Talbots (I first wore these last year with a long, pink spring cardigan.
What I like about them is they are fairly lightweight and have a little stretch, but nothing shows through, and they are comfy. I do size down one with Talbots. Normally, I’m a size 6. At Talbots, I’m a size 4.
I’ve paired my jeggings with a striped tee, a feminine ruffle around the neckline, and this fabulous, washed linen jacket. The patio red jacket (red-coral) is super relaxed and has a sporty drawstring hem. I like to roll up the sleeves for a casually elegant look. Linen is always so classy in summer and more popular than ever, thanks to the Coastal Grandma look that has been trending.
You can see that my ruffle neck tee is sleeveless. Do you know how that ruffled neckline draws attention up, widening my shoulders? In this photo, my shoulders look wide, and my hips look narrow, but I can assure you that’s just an illusion. I have hips! You wouldn’t know it because the horizontal stripes, the ruffle across the neckline, and the skinny tapered cropped pants widen my top half and narrow it visually.
To Play up the nautical theme, I’ve accessorized my outfit with this beachy straw tote that I picked up at The Drop at Amazon. The rope sandals were from Talbots last year, but these are similar.
I like wearing metallic sandals with cropped pants because cropped pants make you look short. This light gold is close to my skin color and makes my legs look lovely and long. Now, if I had worn a coral sandal or a black sandal to match my top, it would have shortened my legs because these colors are a big contrast between my skin color and the color of my jeans. These colors create a break that shortens my legs. It’s right. Metallic is just better, for me, at least.
There we go, a cheesy pair of sunglasses to celebrate. I love these and pull them out every July-long holiday weekend. Did you know I live on Lake Ontario, and the U.S. is just an hour and a half away? I can wave to NY State across the lake (LOL!)

July 4th Outfit # 2
O.k. Here we go with the second outfit, which I love so much! I can’t resist a simple sundress with a little twist at the waist. This one is darling. It’s not too bare, but it’s very light and cool. The length is perfect, and the print is so perky and modern. (By the way, I’, 5’7″ and size 6)
I’m wearing it with crochet espadrilles, which have a summery vibe. Have you read my recent crochet trend post? You can see these up close there and learn more about how to wear anything crochet this summer.
And that’s it! You’re all set. Add a pair of earrings and a little bracelet; you are one and done!

4th of July Outfit # 3
One more look, girlfriends! It’s been ages since I wore a skirt as short as this, but my legs aren’t bad, so what the heck!
The cute boating print on this canvas A-line skirt called to me, and I had to have it. As for the top, I’ve always wanted a denim shirt, but couldn’t find the right one. Many seemed heavy and masculine. This one is a very lightweight slub denim, and it feels more feminine than most because of that sassy front tie.
I love the idea of mixing denim and print, and of course, cute lace-up statement sneakers are the thing to wear with skirts and dresses this summer! I’m so glad. I’m over heels for the most part!
I bought my half moon straw bag at Amazon, and I’m surprised it isn’t in tatters because I have used it so much since last summer. It’s just a handy thing to have to make an outfit look and feel natural and summery.
There’s the look! I’m ready to get on board and set sail!

Cute 4th of July Outfit # 4
I just wanted to mention that you can also wear this top with a pair of white jeans. It looks pretty cute. Some gals are dead against short skirts, even in summer, so this is an alternative. The pants and shirt are plain, so I added some color and texture.
The shoes, for example, are knit (very comfy), and this pale pink color makes the outfit come alive.
The bag? It’s fabulous. It’s a bestselling woven faux leather tote I got at Amazon. It comes in over a dozen colors, but I liked this buttery beige because it goes with everything. This bag is so soft and pliable. I took it on my last trip because it holds so much, and when you need to stuff it under your airline seat, it comes afterward still looking great!
