Crochet tops may sound old- fashioned, but this season designers have put a fresh new spin on what many associate with Grandma’s Victorian doilies. Here are the latest in summer crochet tops and 4 modern ways to wear them.
1. Try a Crochet Striped Top
Crochet has been reimagined in many new ways, and one of the most creative is via fabric Blocking. This sporty striped tee is embellished with crochet across the neckline and has fabric blocked crochet sleeves. This unexpected mix of sporty stripes and delicate crochet creates a perfect balance that is fresh and youthful.
2. Go Retro with Crochet Blouse and Flares
When was the last time you wore a crochet top? This pretty blue peasant top may bring back some memories. Pretty crochet insets on the sleeves give this sweet blouse a cool, 70’s vibe. Pair this cute crochet blouse with flared bootcut jeans, and you get an upscale, boho-inspired look that looks fab in for summer 2019.
3. Pair a Crochet Tank Top with Colored Jeans
This sporty crochet tank top with the honey-bee trim is just begging to be paired with something fun. These playful yellow jeans are a perfect match. Not only do colored jeans add energy and life to crochet tops (which are often white or beige), but they give the whole outfit a contemporary feel.
Keep in mind that some crochet tops are more see-through than others and be prepared to wear a camsiole or a nude bra which conceals much better than a white or colored bra.
Once you’ve got that figured out, it’s time to add accessories. For example, with this outfit, I’ve added some cute sandals, a white bag, and these bold beaded tassel earrings. The result is a totally up-to-date summer crochet look!
4. Include A White Crochet Top into a Monochromatic Look
Colored jeans with a crochet top is just one way to look hip this summer. Another way is to create a monochromatic look. For example, if you wear a white crochet top and white shorts ( or white pants or a white skirt), you can’t go wrong. This is a classic tone on tone look that never goes out of style and is very sophisticated too.
Here I’m showing blue espadrilles with the outfit which looks great, but if you want to appear even taller/slimmer, then try a nude or white shoe. All one color from head to toe elongates the body.
Don’t worry about having matching whites when creating your monochromatic look. It’s nearly impossible to do and looks rather boring. Slightly varying shades of white are fine, and the fact that your white crochet top has texture means your outfit will really come alive. Monochromatic color+ texture creates a winning look!
Love it or hate it? Will you be wearing crochet tops this summer?
