Loft Winter Try-On Haul & More Styled For You

Hi ladies!  It’s still winter, but spring is on the horizon.  I was over at Loft poking around and noticed a lot of transitional pieces have already arrived. Here’s a quick try-on haul to show you what’s new at LOFT and a few cute outfit collages that will take you from winter right through to spring.

Navy Striped Cardigan Top

Do you notice how the stores seem to be packed with navy blue in January and February? It’s no coincidence—navy is the ultimate color for transitioning from winter to spring. It’s dark and cozy, like black, which feels like winter, but it’s more lively, hinting at the freshness of spring.

Lately, I’ve been seeing a lot of navy and white striped pieces with a nautical vibe, and I’m all for it! Navy and white always look crisp, fresh, and sporty, and with these cold, blah days,  I could use a little sporty energy in my wardrobe right now. (LOL!)

This Chanel-like striped pocket cardigan is more of a stretchy top than a sweater. I tried it on with high-rise skinny jeans (it also comes in midrise), which I was really happy to see at Loft. It appears skinny jeans are suddenly back in style, which is great because they are my favorite silhouette.

Wide Leg Pants Vs. Skinnies

So where does that leave wide-leg pants? Well, they’re still going strong, especially this wide-leg cropped style with the patch pockets.  How do you like them?

I’ve got to admit, I prefer skinnies, although I think they look best with a less fitted top. On the flip side, these wide-leg sailor jeans look good with a fitted top since they are so broad on the bottom. (However, it seems like I need to go up a size in the striped cardigan top, as it pulls at the bust.) As for shoes, you could wear a cute flat Maryjane, but I prefer a small heel to look a little taller in this style of pants.

Space Dye Sweater

Here’s a pretty Rainbow Space Dye sweater that’s a really nice change from dark winter colors. I’d call it transitional since it’s a warm winter knit, but the colors are soft and Easter egg-like. I didn’t even bother to try it on with wide legs. I went straight for the high waisted dark wash skinny jeans  (midrise style here), which look great and make me feel super comfy in this look. Who said you couldn’t wear pastels in winter?

lilac tunic sweater

Speaking of pastels, there are lots out there right now that are bright and saturated. This lilac-colored ribbed tunic sweater is one of my favorites because lilac feels feminine but not too girly, like some bright pink. I also think lilac is a very flattering color next to mature skin, which can often look a tad faded.

Lilac Tunic Sweater

Since this lilac sweater is a longer tunic length, I tried it on with the same dark-wash skinny jeans as before and ended up buying the shirt and the jeans. On the right, I’m wearing the same sweater in Florida with white slim straight jeans.  I love the tunic length (which isn’t too long) and the figure-flattering side slits, which make your legs look nice and long. You can wear this sweater as is or with a white shirt underneath and the shirttails out.

How do you like my sneakers? I think they’re pretty cute for spring!

Valentine's Day Tee

Valentine’s Day Tee

As Valentine’s Day approaches, I’m seeing more tops with hearts than usual. This striped heart pocket tee is interesting because it has stripes on stripes. It’s a red and white striped tee with a striped heart sewn on top. This tee is a cute way to celebrate February 14th without spending a lot, and it is easy to wear again without feeling like it’s a holiday.

Which Do you Prefer?

After showing you this top with skinny jeans, I wanted to show you what it looks like with wide-leg pants! Isn’t it amazing how different pants can totally change the look? The cropped wide pants make me look shorter than the skinnies, and since I’m an hourglass, this boxy striped heart top makes me look thicker through the waist. I’m not a big fan of this look on me. 1. Hi Deborah……..I agree with you that skinnies with some things are much better for some of us. I am petite, and unless I have a high enough heel, the wide-leg style is hard for me to pull off. I prefer a slim bootcut, slim flare, or straight slim cut. I bought a top with the Lady jacket look but a more casual vibe at Ann Taylor, just like the one you have on but a little longer. I sized up when I read reviews, but I still had to stitch the gun between the first & and 2nd buttons so it wouldn’t pull open. That gun is so handy!!! I can’t wait to check out all your finds and that Lilac is great on you! I love that color too!

    1. Hi Bonnie! Nice to hear from you. I can see how that wide leg may drown you if you are petite! I need that gun because if I had gone up a size the top would have been too big. It was just pulling at the one button. I usually use clothing tape. Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the compliment about the lilac. It’s become one of my new favorite colors over the last few years. See here! https://www.fabulousafter40.com/how-to-wear-a-lilac-or-lavender-sweater-this-fall/

  2. Good morning Deborah! I totally agree, the red striped shirt looks so much better on you with the skinny jeans than with those wide leg ones. With the skinnies, it’s flattering and you look balanced. With the wide leg, you have no shape! But the navy Chanel cardigan and the wide leg jeans look fantastic on you! It’s quite chic! Personally, I think the wider leg silhouette has to be more carefully chosen than other styles of jeans to keep balanced proportions, not only the jeans themselves, but also choosing the right style of the top. :) Thanks for highlighting what Loft has in stores right now. If I have some time, I’ll go check them out.
